We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we set out to create SRYBB we wanted to find a way to bring people of various eating habits – those who love meat, vegetarians, and vegans – together to enjoy shared meals. Our hope was to show those that eat meat that it is easy to eat plant-based and that it is delicious while also giving vegans and vegetarians delicious meals that they often do not get when going to restaurants that do not specialize in plant-based meals. We believe that food is one of the easiest ways to bring people together and we wanted our food to give people a space to share joy with people.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SRYBB is a vegetarian and plant-based food pop up and caterer. We are focused on providing delicious vegetarian and plant-based meals. Our food is extremely personal and we want to continue our families traditions of showing love through food. You can find us at different markets around the Denver area, order our food online, or order our catering for a special event.
We got here through a lot of creativity, hard work, and mistakes. Working in food requires us to be extremely creative and forward thinking while also learning from mistakes. We want our food to be delicious and unique – to do this we have to constantly recipe test. This process isn’t easy, but we overcome it by relying on each other, relying on our community, and always striving to find new solutions.
We want the world to know that a plant-based meal can be delicious and nutritious. You don’t have to totally sign off meat when you start eating SRYBB, but you will be shocked by how good the food taste and you will want to keep coming back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting there are a few must sees/must dos. We want our friends to see what we do in our own free time and really get a sense for how amazing the local community is.
Breakfast – you need to go to one of the city’s farmers markets and get an amazing breakfast from one of the many fantastic food vendors – Ideally you are visiting SRYBB but there are some great vendors out there!
Other breakfast spots are – Tonantzin Casa de Cafe – some of the best coffee, pan dulces, and food we’ve had. The Art District on Santa Fe is one of our favorite neighborhoods in the city. Get coffee and then make a day going through the wonderful studios, stores, and tattoo shops. Also, Quince Coffee House has amazing drinks and a wonderful patio and indoor space to relax.
Denver is at its best when the weather is beautiful and you are able to go outside – so make sure you are able to go to one of the city’s beautiful parks and plan an afternoon where you sunbathe, eat amazing food, and just walk around. Wash Park and Cheesman are our go tos – but you can’t go wrong.
Denver is home to amazing thrifting, vintage, and secondhand clothing shops. There are amazing shops on Santa Fe, Broadway, Colfax, and 13th. Our personal favorite is Strawberry Mountain.
Go to one of the amazing markets in the city. Outside of farmers markets there are also amazing pop ups and markets all around the city focusing on local artists, clothing sellers, and vintage vendors. Places like the VegFest Vegan Nights, Lavender Art Collective Markets, Market in the Park-Et, Out Front Magazine’s Queer Markets, Vrtrum Market, Kids Table markets/events, and so many more!
For Dinner – we love to eat, some of our favorite places to take friends to are MAKfam, Fire on the Mountain, Taki Sushi, Ti Cafe (not dinner but amazing drinks), Sputnik, you can’t go wrong.
Finally, go catch some amazing live music. We always to try to make it to a Red Rocks show, but there are some fantastic live music venues for whatever your taste in music is.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to say thank you and give credit to all of our amazing supporters, the people who keep coming back and always wanting to try new products. We especially want to thank those who have given us their time, money, and encouragement from the very beginning – Allison & Mark Young, Shan Broom, Soleil LaBeija, Brent Taylor and Scott Kilgore – without the six of you, SRYBB would not be where it is today.
