We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, why did you pursue a creative career?
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso Art was always my favorite. I loved to draw, paint, sculpt and learn about form and color and theory, I soaked up art history, everything from architecture to Zoetrope. Photography felt functional and beautiful, and clients were approaching me! It was very fluid, and it fit into my chaotic schedule of raising young children. It has been such a gift to be make my own hours and create my own balance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a portrait, family and fine art photographer, a life long artist, a mom of three, wife, sister and friend. All of those pieces are part of the puzzle of my business, which is also a very big part of my life. Though becoming a photographer seemed like a seamless choice, it has not always been easy, as I would imagine any mom would say about their work/life balance. After a decade, I’ve leaned a lot about how to make it work for me, my family and my clients, but I still have a lot to improve. Always growth. Never giving up. Making the time, coming back with the effort, It is always a work in progress!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you were visiting me in Firestone, we would definitely walk around Milivec Resevoir at the Frederick recreation center, and Barefoot Lakes Park in Firestone. We would have the fungii pizza and seasonal salad from Peel in Frederick, and then maybe close at Parrots, where Thursdays are ladies night and Saturdays they have live music. Coffee and the best baked good in town from the Mountain Cowboy and Pizza from Bash next door.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my husband, without him none of this would be possible.
