We had the good fortune of connecting with Madisen Meek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madisen, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Failure is just a stepping stone to success. It took me five pageants to win my first local title, and it was not easy. However, the friendships and lessons I gained from those experiences have built me into the resilient woman I am today. I have learned immense public speaking and advocacy skills while gaining friendships that will last a lifetime. Going into Miss Colorado week I am feeling so at peace with my training and ready to tell my story.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started doing pageants when I was 15 years old. The last 4 years have definitely not been easy but they have been the best in so many ways. My “why” for competing in Miss Colorado always comes back to my platform “Mindful Futures: Empowering Early Action Against Alzheimer’s.” I chose this for my grandmother who passed away when I was 16 due to Alzheimer’s. It was really hard to see her go through that and to see my family deal with everything that comes with caring for a person with dementia. So, I turned that pain into purpose and created my platform which focuses on prevention and early intervention through education and my partnerships with the Alzheimer’s and American Heart Associations. I do this by teaching elementary students about brain and heart health because that is the number one way to prevent Alzheimer’s starting at an early age. I also am an Alzheimer’s Association Ambassador where I lobby for legislation that raises funding for research and I am on the Larimer County Walk to End Alz Committee.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first start at Colorado State University! I am a junior there and love it! I’d take them on a little tour and stop by Ramskeller for a bite to eat or a drink! Then, I would go on a long walk around Old Town where we would go thrifting and get ice cream at my favorite place, Walrus. Finally, I would end the night by driving up to Horsetooth Falls and watch the sunset.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My little sister is my biggest inspiration. She is the strongest woman I know and I always look to her for advice for literally anything. Another person who has been a huge help is Tosha Toste, my local director. She is always there for me and has been instrumental in my interview preparation leading up to Miss Colorado Week. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Miss Colorado and Miss Nebraska board members and delegates; I would not be here without each and every one of them.
