We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Mains and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is the spice of life! You are not living fully until you are able to take a risk. In every venture I’ve done, there is always risk. One thing about learning to take risks, is you’ll never lay in bed at night wondering “what if I would have…” Even if your idea or “new move” fails, at least you tried.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do have a business called E3 Communications Assistance and I help with branding with “Branding by Rachel.” However, I am most proud of my radio show “Corner Cafe: Sharing the Story & Heart of an Artist.”Our goal is to uplift, encourage and inspire. We provide music variety with a pinch of entertainment. I started out hosting and producing my own radio show when I took a full-time job as a Traffic Manager in radio (my previous job was in TV News as a Floor Director). The station manager noticed my work ethic and offered a radio show to me – he knew I was a singer-songwriter and thought this format would be a good fit.

I named it Corner Cafe because my first album was titled Corner Cafe.

It’s not easy being an entrepreneur. It takes risk and lots of hard work. I work more than I every have. However, my work is filled with passion and enjoyment. I’ve also sacrificed much to be able to be self-employed. I wouldn’t trade it for anything though. I overcame my many challenges simply by sharp focus, consistency and patience. It takes a long time to build a business or a brand. I’ve also learned how to reinvent myself. Sometimes an idea will require another perspective. Sometimes you’ll have to learn new skills to keep up with the shifting industry. Sometimes you’ll have to tweak your business model into another more productive model. I think the point is to always be moving forward and be open to change – don’t get stuck!

What I’d like the world to know about me is, if I can do it, you can do it!

I think we can often feel stuck with a business idea or brand idea because we think it needs to be perfect before we step out. My advice is, step out! It may feel imperfect (and you may feel you are not ready) but you’ll learn how to improve as you start moving. Don’t feel like it needs to “be perfect” before you start moving. Just go do it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend visits me in Colorado (she lives in San Diego) we usually always go somewhere to have tea. There is a local shop I visit often for tea and it has also become my “temporary office” from time to time too. We also schedule a spa day. We’ll usually take a mountain trip too – if there is time. Our last best friend time was cancelled due to Covid, but we had planned to stay at a resort in Vail and have some spa time and check out the local eateries and shops. Because my everyday life is so busy, I really try to plan my vacation time with lots of relaxing activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been many mentors and friends that have helped to encourage my path along my journey. The one “Person” I always credit is God. I would absolutely not be where I am at without my faith. My faith has been the “match” to light my fire in everything I do. To live for a higher purpose sure inspires “purpose” here on this earth!
