We had the good fortune of connecting with Salihah Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salihah, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal! It’s not really my way to think about things in those terms but I’ve been dreaming a lot about my larger wearable art pieces and branching out with the bags and other accessories. I’d like to see those parts of my business grow and evolve!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love making jewelry but what I’m most excited about are the wearable beaded shirts, bags, wall hangings, and art pieces. I’m really excited and curious to see where that part of my expression goes. In some ways, my professional career came easy because there wasn’t any modern beadwork like mine at the time so a lot of my opportunities came to me without much effort. However, it didn’t take long for the trend to spread and there have been some challenges in keeping my work fresh and new and to step up the business side of everything. Business stuff doesn’t come naturally to me so I’ve had to learn a lot! I want the world to know that everything is made by me and one other amazing lady here in Colorado, all woven by hand with love and care.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooooo I wish! Well, we’d start by going on a morning hike up Sanitas and then to Luckys Cafe for the Huevos Rancheros. After that yummy breakfast, we’d go downtown and stop in at Cedar & Hyde, Shop Jones, and Co for some shopping and then get lunch at Rosetta Hall. After lunch, we’d get a coffee at Trident Cafe, walk along the creek past the tea house and get dinner and drinks at Arcana. We’d have a Denver day to visit the Botanical Gardens, get lunch at Stowaway, and hit up Sacred Thistle and the new Conifer Shop. There would definitely be a night or two of camping and maybe finish off by Buena Vista to soak in some Hot Springs… post-pandemic dreams.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my first retail partnership with Gravel & Gold in San Fransico! When I moved to California from Philadelphia I didn’t have any clear visions for my work I just loved making things, including working with beads. I went to a dinner party wearing a pair of my earrings hosted by these incredible women who owned one of the first mercantile type shops in San Fransico. They loved the beads and invited me to sell some in their shop! That organic relationship led to other stores investing in my line and my business was born!
