Hi morgan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Everything in life is a risk, even by not taking a risk you are risking what could have been. One of my favorite quotes is ” you can’t fall if you don’t climb. but theres no joy in living your life on the ground”.

I believe that risk taking is the only way to truly LIVE and not just ~exist~ in this world.
Y0u can’t experience true love without risking heartbreak, you cant start a business without risking failure, you cant see the view at the top if you wont risk falling during the climb – you get the point.

If I didn’t take risks I would not be where I am today.

About 5 years ago, I was working front desk at a local gym & it really hit me how unhappy I was at that job & how even when I graduated college I would still be unhappy because I didn’t feel passionate about what I was in school for. It was just a career field that i felt was interesting enough & paid enough for me to be content… I realized I didn’t want to be just content with my life, I wanted to be truly happy, & truly free.. not just living life for the weekends & to pay bills.

After realizing all of that I decided that I wanted to create my own business and work for myself doing something that I truly love to do. I had recently got into weightlifting & decided that what I wanted was to open my own gym. I knew that that wasn’t something that was going to make me a ton of money but it was something that would make me happy & in my eyes true happiness is the real measure of success.
Anyways, here is where risk taking comes back into play, opening your own gym is EXPENSIVE & a huge risk for a 21 year old to take on. I decided to start small, create my own logo & then make a small investment on some logo’d hats. The bunch of custom logo hats were only about $300 but for a 21 year old making minimum wage that was a big risk. PLUS, I didn’t know if they would sell when I didn’t even have a website or anything. Not to mention risking other peoples judgement & disapproval.

That $300 risk ended up paying off & I reinvested the earnings into another round of logo hats which also ended up selling out. The next risk I decided to take on was to do tee shirts & create a website, a bigger risk because not everyone wears the same size, they are more expensive to make, & a website costs monthly to be up and running. When I made the website I had to come up with a name so I took my fitness nickname “Morgainz” & turned it into “Morgainz Collection”.

Fast forward a bit, & I was on to making my first crop tops, leggings & mens tanks to follow… by this time I was enjoying making the clothing & reinvesting there I didn’t even think about the gym idea anymore. I also, started personal training people for free after I got off of my front desk job, because I enjoyed helping the members at the gym learn how to use the equipment.
This is where that saying shoot for the moon & even if you miss you’ll land among the stars comes along and proves to be true because I took risk intending to land on the moon ~start a gym~ but I missed & landed among my own clothing brand personal training business. ~the stars~

After about 7 months of working the brand as my “side hustle” another big risk was on the horizon for me. I wanted to focus more time into growing the brand but I was still working my part time job till midnight & had to leave for campus at 5am. I decided I needed to quit that job & put ALL of my time & energy into the brand & that I should also start my own personal training business. I quit the gym with only one “client” that trained with me twice a week for a low low rate. I promised myself when I quit that I would & will NEVER work for someone ever again.
A HUGE scary risk I took on here I was risking getting caught “underground” training clients, risking disappointing my family, going broke by losing my one client & or not having enough savings to hold me over while things picked up…etc I had zero stability & was running on pure will to succeed.

The next risky risk was, I decided to drop out of college because it too was taking a lot of my time that I wanted to invest into my two growing businesses. Another SCARY risk for me especially after being programmed that going to college was the only way to not end up working at a fast food joint for the rest of my life.

There are a thousand and one other important details im surely leaving out here but that is the gist of the story of how I became a business owner & have been able to work for myself doing what i’m passionate about for the last five years now. It required a LOT of risk & more & more risk as the business continues to grow.

I’ve taken on a lot of risks outside of business too & could go on and on about them but I think its about time I stop the rambling and leave you with another quote or two ” A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. ” & “Sometimes you have to risk it all for a vision only you can see”. (which is exactly what I did).

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of how much growth I have accomplished in the past 5 years with both businesses & I am excited to see all the growth in the years to come. It hasn’t been easy by any stretch but I’d rather work 24 hours a day for myself & something I truly believe in than be miserable in the hamster wheel working 8 hours a day for some cooperation.

I overcame all of the challenges by not giving up and putting one foot in front of the other. I believe in myself and my dreams as if my future self came back & told me that it all worked out better than I imagined.
