We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Xaubet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karina, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I think that waking up every day positive and grateful to be able to make my passion my job, to be constant and determined, giving my energy and charisma to everyone who needs it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born in Uruguay and then I lived in Italy for 26 years before I moved to CO. My career as a dance teacher started at a very young age and I had my dance school for a few years. When one day I decided to go to Europe, where my life changed completely to the point that I stopped dancing for several years for family reasons. I started dancing again when I was 31 years old and the mother of two beautiful girls, Tiziana and Micaela. I started taking dance classes and being part of groups that performed various styles of dance. I was invited to a Zumba class one day, from that day I fell in love with the format and I thought that this was the ideal job for me, where I could express myself dancing, making others feel good and training at the same time! I did Basic 1 which is the training to be a Zumba instructor and I didn’t stop, I moved to the United States with my husband David and started from scratch here in Colorado 6 years ago where I didn’t know anyone. I have all the specialties of Zumba, that is, I can teach children, seniors, in water, using equipment such as step and weights. I also have other certifications such as Barre, Strong Nation, Carribean Dances such as Salsa, Merengue and Bachata as a couple or individual. I am also a Master Trainer for a format called D2G SocaFit based exclusively on the culture from 🇹🇹 Trinidad & Tobago only with Soca music. What I have learned throughout my life is that if you have a dream and a strong passion for something, go for it, do not doubt yourself and be constant, honest and humble because you never stop learning and there will always be someone more prepared than you That will always make you a respectable professional. What I would like the world to know that sometimes life puts us to a hard test, the important thing is not to lose your goal and persevere and about me is that no matter where in the world I live, every lesson I take with me will always be a unique experience because I put my love note/nota de amor in everything I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend comes to visit, I’d love to show her the Grand Canyon, Moab, Glenwood Springs, The Manitou Incline, Garden of the Gods, a show at Red Rocks, opera at Ellie Caulkins Opera House. My favorite places to eat are; Rioja in Denver, 1914 House in Niwot, West Side Tavern in Longmont and D Bar and Barcelona Bar in Denver.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely yes! First of all, my mother, Irma Rey, who since I was little has believed in my passion and talent, a moral, financial and mental support!
She always instilled in me to continue fighting for my dreams and to dream big, that sooner or later my time would come. And second to my husband David Mitchell that if I am here today it is thanks to his love and support!
