Meet Yodit Alem | Esthetician & Lash Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yodit Alem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yodit, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “manifest your own reality, create you’re own success”. I read that in a book once and it’s suck with me over the years. What I love is it gives me control over my life and accountability. You have to take action and “put in the work” to have your dream job or life. This quote gives me the power to achieve my goals.

What should our readers know about your business?
Stay Fly Beauty Studio is a Denver based eyelash extension studio. My lash business started out of my living room with a massage bed and a side table. It was exciting to be a working lash artist but after some time I didn’t like the idea of strangers coming into my home so I worked for a large lash studio for a year. The best decision I made was working for someone else to gain experience. I focused my energy on gaining knowledge as a lash artist.

Towards the end of my time there, I took a leap of faith and rented studio space to start my own lash business. 6 months in, Covid happened and everything stopped. I couldn’t work and was afraid to work. I had a temporary feeling of defeat. That was a hard year on many levels. During that down time, I joined different online lash communities, took mastermind classes, and attended virtual conferences, to stay up-to-date as a lash servicer and also learn about the beauty business.

Today, I’m happy with the direction my business is going and I have a healthier balance of running a business and family life. I look forward to the future of the business and how I can better service my lash clients. I love being a lash artist and sharing my knowledge. I’m in the process of creating one-on-one lash trainings for beauty professionals coming Fall 2022.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I wanted to give someone the Colorado experience, going to a hot-spring would be our destination. The relaxation and scenery is everything. My favorite is Indian Hot Springs because of their private outdoor tubs and spa treatments. Even thought it’s just a short drive from Denver, I suggest staying the night. There are other outdoor activities in the town and a nearby lake with an easy trail to walk.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being a mother initiated the entrepreneurial path and kept me motivated along the way. It started when my daughter was young and I was laid-off. I realized that I needed to be in an industry that could create stability where no one could tell me when or if I was getting a paycheck. I wanted to work for myself and enjoy what I do. I decided the beauty industry could provide that for us. I finished my esthetician license a month before giving birth to my second child. Having little people depend on me has been the main driving factor in starting a business and still is.
