Meet Regina Dyerly | Partner/Chief Operating Officer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Regina Dyerly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Regina, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Early in my career, I did not set any boundaries. I was always on and I felt like I needed to be. As I have progressed in my career and in my life, the need to have down time and to be present in my life became a necessity. This allows me to be more focused while at work and during family and personal time. A key element of being able to have work life balance is not feeling like you have to be involved in everything at work. You do not need to attend every meeting, be directly involved in every project and you have trust in the people you have hired to do their jobs, but be available if they need assistance or support.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my HR career over 25 years ago at a boutique Technical Recruiting company New York’s Wall Street Area (I am a Native New Yorker). Realizing I needed to move to a bigger company to expand my experience, I moved to a much larger national technical recruiting company, before ultimately moving over to the corporate side during the beginning of the dot come era. I was hired at an Application Service Provider (now called SaaS) in “Silicone Alley” and I was one of the first employees hired to help ramp up. After a successful start, they asked me if I could take over Human Resources as well as Recruiting and I dove in without really knowing what I was getting myself into. I feel this is a mistake many business owners make! I quickly started preparing for my PHR test and read everything I could get my hands on. I have never looked back as I had found my passion. After the dot com bubble burst in the early 2000’s my career had taken a hit, as did so many others. I decided to make a big change to shake things up and I packed up and moved to Colorado and everything fell into place. I have worked in numerous industries in HR leadership; Tech, Banking, Manufacturing and Call Center until I finally found my home at Vida HR, where I am able to leverage my passion for HR and build and support a team of other passional HR professionals. Being in HR is extremely challenging for many reasons. HR gets a bad rap! So much happens behind the scenes that employees are unaware of that we cannot divulge. We are witness to the inner workings of a company and can advise on so many different issues, but in past were often not asked for our opinions. The tables have turned since the pandemic though and now HR finally has a seat at that table. It’s an exciting time for our HR team at Vida HR.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am going to veer off course and not spend any time in the city! In the summer, I would start in Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs, where I live. Their first full day, after some acclimation, we would go for a nice moderate hike at Seven Bridges Trail, one of my personal favorites. On the way back into town we would go for lunch in Manitou, most likely at The Loop. After some relaxing, it would be great to go the Flying W Ranch for their chuckwagon dinner and performance by the Flying W Wranglers. The resilient story at the beginning of the show will get you choked up, depicting their struggles to reopen after the total devastation from the Waldo Canyon Fire.
Day two, I would head down to the Pueblo Reservoir with our kayaks and paddle boards with a packed cooler and spend the day on the water. That evening we would hit the newly reopened Mesa Drive-In, which is a true gem. The food is pretty good too, so we would have dinner there as well!
Day three, we would (get tickets in advance) check out the awesome Royal Gorge Railroad for the First Class Lunch Train. The views, the food and the service make for an amazing experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the amazing team at Vida HR, I have never worked with another like it. It is because of the combined team effort that we are where we are today and that our future is so bright. It is not an understatement when I say this team is all support, no politics, no gossip, no nonsense, and cares about each other and the company. The knowledge sharing that occurs on a daily basis is astounding and uncommon. Not one person is territorial or has ever said “that is not my job” rather “how can I help”. We have had some tough days the last few years, due to the nature of our industry, and the team has rallied around each other.
