We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Toth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colleen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had worked for a few chiropractors before starting my own business. However, I always felt unsatisfied with their business models. My cup wasn’t full – I wasn’t able to spend the time and quality of care that I wanted to with these patients. Instead of spending 5-10 minutes with a patient and only focus on adjustments, I now spend around 30-40 minutes with a patient with a more unique and specialized treatment tailored to each patient. Every person is different – we all have different areas of focus and causes to the pain or dysfunction we may feel. This is why my model is to not treat every patient the same and find the root cause of their complaint and use a multi modal approach to fix it. This type of care was not offered in my area – which inspired me to deliver it to the community. I am well known in town now for a more one-on-one, not your classic chiropractic type of appointment. We will work on your soft tissues, adjustments, dry needling, rehab, nutrition, stress levels, etc. My goal is to help accelerate healing while also providing the tools and knowledge for patients to succeed on their own outside of the office.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Elevated Wellness Chiropractic aims to solve the root cause of your pain and dysfunction. Treatment at my office is extensive including a multi modal approach. We are not your typical chiropractic office. We treat every individual as a unique patient in the office. This means not every patient will have the same treatment approach, timeline, visits necessary or lifestyle suggestions. Our visits are typically 30 minutes where we adjust the areas needed, focus on soft tissue therapy (working with muscles, ligaments, etc), rehabilitative exercises and other lifestyle suggestions. Lifestyle suggestions (diet, movement, supplements, etc) help the patients outside of the office thrive.
I would consider my two offices as Micro-offices. They are built for that one-on-one doctor experience where all of the focus is on them. To get to where I am now was not easy, but it was doable with motivation and the right mentors to help along the way. I moved to Frisco, Colorado without knowing a single person. Within 3-4 months of living there, I started my business. With no business background, it was all a learning experience. I am not one afraid to ask questions though. I learn by doing. The first year was slow as I focused on advertising and getting my name out there. After the first year, I had built a very positive reputation for myself in the community and have made so many connections. Now, the business is thriving and I have two offices looking to expand again. I am extremely grateful for all of the people I get to help each day.
I had one mentor tell me it was a horrible idea to open a business in this small town. He had never been there before though. I thought otherwise – I saw great potential for myself here. As a small town girl, I know the importance of a small community. They love to support local business. It is also a huge tourist town in the winter with towns of skiers and snowboarders visiting – I target to the more athletic population. One thing I learned from this was – there are always going to be people who doubt or may not believe in you. However, if you have the motivation and drive and willingness to not give up and take failures as lessons to keep growing, you will succeed. Not succeeding was not an option for me. I took every bump in the road as a lesson to grow the business further.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Assuming it was winter time – I would take them to one of the ski mountains for the day! We could have a good breakfast and coffee beforehand at Butterhorn Bakery, then hit one of the ski mountains – preferably Copper mountain, followed by some Apres Happy Hour at Legends in Breckenridge. We would walk the streets of Frisco, Colorado and do some window shopping and appreciate the mountainous views of this charming town. On Tuesday night, we would go to trivia at Saved by the Wine in Silverthorne. We may check out some beautiful views at Sapphire Point, Blue Pools, or Swan Mountain Road. We may take a drive to Glenwood and hit the hot springs there or Iron Mountain Hot Springs. A nice dinner at Rootstalk in Breckenridge is always a good idea.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Andrew Robb is a fantastic chiropractor in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He is a chiropractor who opened my eyes to all of the different tools, methods and modalities we can use as chiropractors. He was the reason I began this journey.
