Meet Jessica Judkins | Travel Agent

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Judkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a Stay at Home Mom. When I got married, I mentioned this to my husband and he supported me in my desire to stay at home when we had children. I continued to work, until I got pregnant with our first child. I’ve loved being at home with our daughter. However, there’s still a desire to help out with the family income. So, I looked into some remote jobs. Finding nothing I wanted to really do, I looked into starting my own business as a travel agent. I love traveling and I have always enjoyed helping others plan their trips as well. I found a host agency to get me started and I have started working as a travel agent under them!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a travel agent with Gotta Skedaddle Travel. I am so excited to be apart of this host agency and start my own business as a travel agent! I love helping others plan every aspect of their trip/vacation so they can enjoy a stress-free getaway. Becoming a travel agent hasn’t been easy. The process was easy, but actually gaining clients has been the hardest aspect of starting this business. Having clients is essential for my business to succeed, as this is a commission based business. I am learning to be patient with and trust the process in building a client base.
Every time you book through me, it helps grow my business. When you book through me, you receive magical extras, a specialized itinerary, and concierge service…and its 100% free to you! The only way I can keep my travel agent business running, is if people choose to book through me.
It’s much harder to be a travel agent today, than it was even 10 years ago. Our online world has made it so easy for people to book their own trips, and purchase their own tickets. But, I stand my ground that using a travel agent can help give you peace of mind, as well as provide you with that special human touch that booking online just doesn’t provide.
I promise you’re not “bugging” your travel agent, or putting them out when you choose to use our services. In fact, it’s an honor.
So, the next time you go online to purchase your Disney, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, or other theme park tickets, or before you click “book” on a hotel stay, car rental, or cruise.. I hope that you take a moment to remember that you could help change someone’s world and grow their small business, simply by letting us travel agents help YOU.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Elizabethtown, KY is a quaint town, and is close to many places to see around the area! Not specific to which day, I would take my friend north to Bernheim Forest to see the forest giants and walk the trails around the arboretum. We would have a picnic. Another day, we would drive over to Lexington. I would show the the Kentucky Castle. We could go apple picking, and then eat at Bad Wolf Burgers. One day, we would head north again to Louisville to see the famous Kentucky Derby racing! That would take all day. We would most likely eat at the derby, but if we are able to, I’d love to take them to Taco City. Another day we would drive over to Mammoth Caves; the world’s longest known cave system. We’d do some tours of the caves and find a fun spot to eat there. I would also love to take them to Kentucky’s natural bridge, to Cumberland Falls, and to Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest. While in Elizabethtown, I’d make sure my friend has a chance to visit Dewsters Homemade Ice-cream & Bakery. It is SO good. We’d also make pizza on our pizza oven, relax and hang out in my backyard. We have a fireplace area with mood lights, so we’d also make s’mores and chat around the fire.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband and daughter. They are my whole world. My husband is so supportive of me, wanting to be a stay at home Mom but also wanting to contribute to the family income. Being a travel agent allows me to do both. While my daughter naps, I get to work! While she is awake, I get to be her Mom. ♥
