We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Godfrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, what matters most to you?
The continual practice of self love and love for others is the most important value I seek to maintain in my life. I have found that life’s most healing and valuable lessons come from taking everything one experiences as an opportunity to grow into a more compassionate person. Great peace arises as a consequence of practicing this love, and from there one may find that things that were once difficult become easier, they become lighter. To rest, grounded in love is to allow oneself to exercise their highest expressions and highest levels of self-realization. Following this principle has unlocked chapters in life that I could not have ever imagined, and so the practice of love will always remain the most important to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am still in the beginning of my career and have yet to become self-sufficient off of my artwork and products. However, I am excited for what the future holds. I believe part of what sets my work apart is the nature of its creation; there is no external inspiration or reference that contributes to what ends up on the canvas. It is all a product of my internal state and thus entirely unique to myself. My work also offers great potential as “wearable art.” Wearable art can be applied to accessories, clothing, sheets, you name it. The sky is the limit and I am excited to see where such ventures will take me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Though I hail from Boston, I have spent the last four years in Boulder and have loved all of it. The creek has always been a favorite spot of mine, whether it’s the popular location at Eben J Fine park or the small outlet next to my apartment. It is a great place for contemplation, as are the many viewpoints one can find on a drive up Flagstaff Road into the Flatirons. The nightlife on Pearl Street can be a great time as well, though it has less offerings than a larger city. Walking around the CU Boulder campus and the Hill has been a favorite past time of mine here as well. Above all, take some time to enjoy the Boulder’s view of the Flatties, one of the best views is from Scott Carpenter park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As in my first interview, I once again have to give credit to Paramhansa Yogananda and Ram Dass for bringing spiritual clarity to my life in past times of turbulence. Through their teachings I was able to see myself and come to know what I wanted from life; they are the reason I decided to become an artist. Their principles of loving compassion have also stuck with me and thoroughly changed my nature for the better. I also want to thank my friends and family for their consistent support and participation in my artistic ventures.
