We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Busker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Hello! Thank you so much for having me. Risk was certainly a concept hovering in the back of my mind throughout the decision to become a local owner of a new business, named FACE FOUNDRIÉ. I was looking to enter a new market, at the age of 26 with a background in the medical field. I was reminded frequently about risk by people in my life in the initial decision stages. Rightfully so, however I wasn’t daunted to the point that it consumed me. I was unwavering in my belief in the concept of FACE FOUNDRIÉ, and knowledge gained from my Occupational Therapy training that if I didn’t have the answer to all questions, I knew how to find an answer.

My dad, a serial entrepreneur, advised that before deciding to take the leap, I look at all the things that could go wrong with opening a new business. A tangible example is that I made a business plan centered around the lower to medium projected numbers of sales for the business, as opposed to the best-case scenario. While this is an important exercise to consider the potential downfalls, I believe this is an easy point to get stuck at due to fear, or analysis paralysis. In graduate school, a professor once said that the more education people have, the less confident in their own knowledge they become because they now know how much they don’t know. Nonetheless, if after weighing the pro’s and con’s, you are comfortable continuing with your passion and the pro’s, don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Certainly. FACE FOUNDRIÉ is an all-inclusive facial bar specializing in all things face, including facials, lashes, brows + skincare. We empower our customers to look and feel their best by providing cutting edge services, accessible pricing, and an extensively trained staff of skin experts that deeply care.

As an Occupational Therapist, I was passionate about the accessibility and inclusivity of this concept. Our facials start at $45; they are easy to book and can take as quick as 20 minutes or up to a few hours depending on what services you select.

It has been a joy to see a wide range of ages, genders and couples receiving services and taking a minute for themselves to relax in a way that doesn’t break the bank or interfere with time constraints. We are also unique in that we have eight spa beds available, therefore we can host gatherings of five or more people, which we call face parties! I’d love to welcome people with disabilities as well as I serve folks in Occupational Therapy that would equally enjoy some TLC!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
How fun! Downtown Colorado Springs, Acacia Park has a charming ice-skating rink, where you can grab one of the best burgers in town after at the Skirted Heifer. I also love going into the Tattered Cover book store, Ola Juice Bar and Homá Cafe. For a celebratory dinner, The Rabbit Hole is a swanky restaurant with great food and an even more interesting atmosphere. My favorite hotel downtown is Kinship Landing, a boutique hotel that fits the Colorado vibe geared for adventurers. The Broadmoor is a legendary destination resort on the southwest side of town that you won’t be disappointed visiting even if you aren’t staying there.

As for hikes, Red Rock Canyon Open Space is one of my favorites! Along with Seven Bridges that gives you a true Colorado mountain experience. Nearby, Old Colorado City has great restaurants including Front Range Barbecue, Bon Ton’s Cafe, Pizzeria Rustica, and Tapateria.
Nestled between Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak is Manitou Springs, which is a unique mystical town that has the Manitou Incline, and the Loop Mexican restaurant. While I’m not a big drinker, my friends rave about their margaritas.

The Promenade Shops at Briargate is home to us at FACE FOUNDRIÉ, and many other fun stores including Paris Market Vintage, which is a collection of local creators’ vintage products. We enjoy weekly lunch stops at Menya for their California hand rolls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
With there being many individuals to thank, two organizations stand out. St. Catherine University, one of the largest private women’s universities in the nation, and FACE FOUNDRIÉ. Both have provided me with invaluable education that empowers women to believe in themselves. Lastly, a warm thank you to my inspiring partner Adam, my siblings, and parents whose bravery and hard work provided an unintended example that there is no box your life needs to fit in.
