We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Bartley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance has the been the key to my success. Having three children to chase after, I have learned there has to be balance and I have to be able to put my children first. Although wanting to say yes to everything, I have learned that saying no is ok. Taking time to myself, away form work is ok. The balance I have been able to create has brought me such joy and such a wonderful relationship with my career as well as my family. I am so thankful I can choose to work and think of it not as work!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create and execute hair and makeup for brides. I love the freedom and creativity that is allowed to inspire and create confident brides on one of their most memorable days.

I believe I differ from others because I am willing to try anything and will always have you done in efficient time. There is nothing I will say no to when it comes to the look you are desiring.

Through determination, practice, and effort I have come to a place I am today, I am always willing to educate myself and change when I need to pivot to become a better artist,

I have learned that when you are faced with a challenge and that challenge might not turn out the way you anticipated, you learn and grow from that and change your outlook on the outcome. There is a reason for everything and life is only going to make you stronger.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming to visit to our new town we are in now, I would first start by grabbing a coffee in Buena Vista at The Roastery or Bunny in Clyde’s in Salida. We would for sure walk around both towns for a little shopping and art. Next would be hikes around Mt. Princeton and Buena Vista. One of the days we would check out St. Elmo and then float down the Arkansas. We would for sure end the trip at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs for a massage and a soak,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. If he didn’t nudge me to go to cosmetology school, the journey would have never begun. He has supported, guided, and pushed me to where I am now.
