Meet Cierra Washington | Owner of Forbidden Being, Account expert, and senior at Regent University

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business to promote mental health awareness. I struggle with depression and anxiety. I know many people who suffer from mental illnesses as well. I just want to support THEM in their journey and let them know that they are not alone. Your life is worth living. You’re worth going to war for.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand is for any and everyone dealing with mental illnesses or even everyday life stressors. My goal is to CREATE a safe space for mental health and go up against the stigma. The designs that I created are based on the message I am wanting my audience to perceive. I want to share the good, bad, and ugly of mental health so people can understand how serious it is. Most of all, I want to speak up for the ones who do not. My art is a collaboration of the thoughts and feelings of mental illness from a person dealing with them. My biggest challenge is pushing my brand and being confident in my creations since mental illness can be a touchy, uncomfortable topic. My goal is to create a safe space to have a sense of community against society’s standards and norms. What’s normal anyway?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t had the most time to explore as a full time employee, toddler mom, military spouse, and a full time college student, but when I do get time to unwind and explore I am a huge foodie. I am down to try new places like Happy Camper for the experience and cute photo ops. I went for brunch and I truly enjoyed myself. I also enjoyed the Rabbit Hole for anyone in Colorado Springs if you want great drinks and amazing food. It gives you a speakeasy vibe. If you’re into witchy things, visit Manitou Springs for gorgeous crystals at great prices.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my best friend Shanaiya who always pushes me to not sleep on my talent and to keep striving towards success. She also makes me live in my purpose. I also appreciate everyone who has made a purchase to support my brand as well as who has shared my brand. Anyone who has ever given me a compliment when wearing my brand, are the true heroes.
