We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Clemmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware put me right in the center of a community that is based on small businesses and Chef owned restaurants. My friends parents were business owners and summers were amazing, we could get a cool summer job doing anything we wanted. I was able to develop my love for surfing and art. I realized that if I worked doing something I liked work can be really fun. I’ve always had my own business, opened my first small retail store for the summer months when I was 18 years old selling 70s style clothing and body jewelry. My friends dad rented a small place a block from the beach that I could afford and I just went for it. I also had a surfshop for a few years while that was happening my art took off and decided to sell the business and work with a few surf companies, travel to surf events for 5 years. I grew a lot in those years of traveling and meeting really cool inspiring people and it made me feel like I needed to spread my wings and fly on my own, I knew I could do it so I open up my first art gallery 2017.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With the beach under my belt I found a new passion, snowboarding and that brought me to Colorado, spending winters there and summers at the beach. My art is based on my life experiences, what I love, the things that move me. I try to spend a lot of time outside so I can find inspiration within. What sets me apart is how I think, no one is better or worst than anyone, we are all the same but we think differently. I overcome my challenges by never giving up, I don’t look at things not going my way as a failure. To me the biggest failure is not doing anything. I am trying to spread love and happiness and that is what goes into every painting I make. I always say I’m trying to change the world one painting at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends visit I love taking them on the mountain, snowskating is a passion of mine so I am always into teaching people how to do it and when I’m at the beach we could go paddleboarding and surfing. Grabbing some fresh squeezed juice and some healthy eats also is one of my favs to do with friends!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everything I’ve done has been with immense support from family, friends and the community in Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Minturn CO. They have always supported my ideas and I am eternally grateful, without them I don’t know if I could have made the life or my business I am living today.
