Meet Alex Stovall | General Contractor – Residential Renovations

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Stovall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the most important thing that has lead me to my current level of success, and will lead me to future successes is being willing. Willing to try new things, willing to think about things in different ways, willing to work on personal development, willing to ask questions, willing to learn, willing to put myself out there, willing to meet new people, and being willing to work my tail off and do whatever it takes to meet my goals.

What should our readers know about your business?
Red Beard’s Home Services is a General Contracting company working in the Denver metro, focusing on Custom Renovations of Kitchens, Bathrooms and Basements.
We operate as a hybrid, meaning that we have our team members, and we have a small select group of subcontractors that work for us. We find good people, and we stick with them. We do not shop around for the lowest bidder. We focus on good people and quality work. We work in peoples homes, and we take that seriously, therefore we have trustworthy people in there doing the work.
As an example, we have been using the same plumber and electrician for almost 5 years.
Our business is based almost entirely on repeat clients, and referrals, and we have fantastic ratings on Google. That comes from our philosophy of always treating the clients well, and doing our best. The growth and referrals has seemed to be kind of easy, but it has happened because of how hard we work to treat our clients well. So no, not easy at all when you account for everything we do on a daily basis to gain the confidence and trust of our clients, and provide unbelievable results.
It just means that we don’t have to try to grow, it is just happening.
The challenges in our industry are constant. Man power, schedules, material deliveries, damaged materials, etc, etc.
One thing that we do a bit differently than many other construction companies is that we do work on a hybrid basis.
We have people that can do a little bit of everything, so if our floor guy is booked out 2 weeks but we are ready for floors now, we can get guys in there and get the floors done now. Same with framing, drywall, tile, paint, etc. This enables us to keep projects moving, and not just sit on our hands and wait.
One lesson that I am still trying to learn is that I cannot be all things to all people.
My first company was a handyman business, and at first, it was just me and my tools. We grew slowly from there, but have stayed small. I still tend to default into if something needs to be done, I will go get it done. The obvious issue there is one person can only do so much. If I am doing the estimate appointments, preparing and sending the estimates, collecting payments, picking up materials, doing the work on the job sites, sending the invoices, etc, etc, etc I run out of time and energy very quickly, and everything is still not done.
I have been focusing on forcing myself to allow others to take some of the load off of my shoulders, so that I can function at a higher level on the things that have to be done by me.
We are a husband and wife team. I have about 6 years of experience in Commercial Construction Project Management, and about 6 years experience in Residential Remodeling. My wife, Carolina is a Realtor, and a Certified Designer.
We are extremely hard workers who take our businesses seriously, and we take our clients needs seriously.
We have had setbacks and challenges both personally and professionally, but those challenges serve us by growing our confidence, and our capacity to solve problems. We started this journey by remodeling our first house, and then just continuing on from there. I tell my guys that the most important thing is to do the job well, the second most important thing is to do it fast.
We are in the process of launching online digital products and services, to help more people across the country.
We cannot wait to get those services off the ground. We will be focusing on helping homeowners who hire jobs out, but would like a consultant or project manager in their corner, and home owners who want to DIY a project, but need some guidance.
We are very excited about whats coming around the corner, and we hope you join us!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For me, if I am not working, I want to be outside, playing or watching sports, or enjoying a great meal and a drink. Rockies game, tickets are not crazy expensive and the stadium is beautiful with great views and great weather.
Red Rocks for a concert is a must. there is nowhere like it.
Garden of the Gods is like no where else on earth.
Train ride through the royal gorge.
If they have never been up to the mountains, that is an absolute must.
Favorite spots for food and drink, we frequent the same couple spots over and over, we know the staff, and it feels like home.
Rio Grande, and Cuba Cuba.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and absolutely the most important figure in my life is my beautiful, loving, and supportive wife, Carolina Stovall. She is the one that came up with the name Red Beard’s for my company. it’s catchy right?
Beyond her I credit many of the books and self help gurus that I have spent countless hours consulting for helping me to learn to become the best version of myself.
