Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

I grew up as a child in a small town in Slovakia, which was at that time still part of the Eastern Block (behind the `Iron Curtain `).There was not so much going on and I felt to be born into the wrong place somehow. As a kid I was consumed by writing, drawing, listening to music and watching movies. I used to act out my own “movies” by myself, playing every character. Would journal some of it, too. Then, eventually the journaling turned to poetry. I simply fell in love with both writing and filmmaking. Read more>>

I woke up one morning feeling dull. I was just so tired of doing the 9 to 5 gig without any hope for a better future. Sure, I take care of myself and family, but I wanted more out of life. I was just bored to death. I knew that if I didn’t chase something that allows me creative freedom and expression, I would grow old in regret. Read more>>

I have always wanted a place to grow and for my friends to grow and enjoy making art, so starting a collective has been a great way to bring us together as one and do different events and performances. I never really fit the mold for living a typical life path and when I finally came to terms with that I started working tword something of my own, which ended up being The Neon Fox Collective.
