Meet Bethany Piziks | Master Equine Gestalt Coach & Retired Dentist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Piziks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bethany, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks has been a big part of who I am since I was a very small child. I would get bored easily, and always go out looking for an adventure. As a young adult, I felt invincible and made many decisions that would be considered risky! I started my own dental practice, right out of dental school with two employees and two patient charts in the drawer, one being my mother! With a lot of determination and being enrolled in the “school of hard knocks” I was able to be very successful in that business.
Then I took another very large life risk, and sold my dental business to begin a completely new career of being an Equine Gestalt Coach with my main niche being dentists and their teams!
At age 53 I moved from Michigan, where I lived all my life, to Colorado. My heart has always been wanting to live in the southwest, so I took this risk. And so it continues!
As life has progressed, the discomfort level with taking risks has definitely increased, because from experience I can “see around more corners”. But I can’t imagine if I would’ve stayed in the same career or in the same town for my whole life.
I now seek balance between stability and risk!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am most proud of accomplishing in my life is processing and getting beyond the abuse from my father in my childhood. Everyone has moments that change who they are forever, and my father was a very powerful and emotionally unstable man. I grew up defensive, hyper-vigilant, and angry, and thought this was the natural way to move through the world. This deeply affected me personally and professionally, and I finally realized that the changes I was looking for needed to come from within.
Through much therapy and especially my Equine Gestalt work with Melisa Pearce, I was able to transform the pain into a stepping stone, and it has become my passion to help others free themselves of being stuck in old emotions and patterns that don’t serve them.
This has been the most difficult part of my life’s journey. None of it was easy. The rewards have been beyond exciting! The freedom that comes with self-awareness, self compassion, and releasing others of blame is unspeakably cathartic.
This path of personal work has led to my profession today, which is being an Equine Gestalt Coach and Master Gestaltist, helping others to move through their own pain and forward into freedom, and a conscious life of their own creation!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are endless hiking trails in Colorado, anywhere you go! There are many beautiful drives over mountain passes and resort towns to visit, such as Vail, Keystone, and I always love the eclectic city of Boulder. I would take them to a concert at Red Rock for sure. My favorite thing to share with others is to go horse camping in the mountains, sitting in the quiet and enjoying the commune with nature. I could do that for weeks at a time, and be happy as ever!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Huge shoutout to Melisa Pearce, the founder of Touched By A Horse and The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method. Melisa is one of the pioneers of the horses- healing-humans movement. Her iteachings have changed my life personally and professionally in a very positive way, and I owe her huge gratitude and recognition for her work and generosity in sharing it!
