We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Un/Do helps the community and the world in several significant ways:

Addressing Trauma and Emotional Well-being: Un/Do acknowledges the emotional challenges and trauma that individuals, particularly students, may face. By providing a comprehensive curriculum focused on emotional resilience and coping skills, it equips individuals with the tools they need to navigate these challenges effectively.

Early Intervention: The program emphasizes early intervention by introducing essential life skills, including emotional intelligence and resilience, at the earliest educational levels. This proactive approach aims to reduce future emotional and mental health struggles, fostering a more resilient generation.

Support for Educators: Un/Do recognizes the crucial role educators play in a child’s life. By offering professional development training, support system training, and curriculum design support to educators, it not only benefits students but also supports the overall well-being of those guiding and shaping young minds.

Equity and Accessibility: Un/Do’s commitment to providing its curriculum for free and ensuring accessibility for all students, regardless of their backgrounds, promotes equity in education. This initiative helps bridge the gap in emotional support and resilience-building, ensuring that all students have access to these vital skills.

Transforming Mental Health Approach: Un/Do challenges the reactive nature of the existing mental health system by offering proactive, preventative support. By doing so, it seeks to change the way society approaches mental health, making emotional well-being a priority and reducing the need for crisis intervention.

Community Involvement: The program engages board members and community members who are committed to being part of the change. Their dedication and involvement demonstrate a collective effort to enhance emotional well-being and resilience, creating a sense of community and shared responsibility.

In summary, Un/Do helps the community and the world by fostering emotional resilience, promoting early intervention, supporting educators, advocating for equity and accessibility, challenging traditional approaches to trauma informed practices, and fostering a sense of community engagement in the pursuit of emotional well-being and resilience for all.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Having spent 15 years in education, I’ve witnessed our students facing increasing challenges over that period of time, between the influx of information at their fingertips, lack of structures and supports to help them process this information overload, and the amount of cyber bullying going around. I’ve recognized a gap in their needs, although I wasn’t sure how to address it until I acquired these skills myself. Once I experienced the life changing effects that these skills and strategies provided me, I knew we had to figure out a way to get this work out to our students.

What fills me with the greatest pride is our organization’s unwavering commitment to integrity and equity. We prioritize ensuring that our work supports all students, regardless of their unique life experiences. Furthermore, we offer our curriculum free of charge to anyone supporting our students, whether at home or in the school environment. We firmly believe that embracing a trauma-informed approach is essential for effectively supporting our students, and we encourage everyone to share in this language of understanding. Giving our students, their families, and educators access to this curriculum enables us to truly provide a curriculum that supports the full learner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come to town, we tend to hit up the mountains for some snowboarding fun or on a hiking adventure. Every day I feel lucky to live in a vacation destination because Denver has some incredible sites to see, diverse foods to eat, and fun outings to go on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my husband, who has been unwavering in his support throughout this journey, to my children, who are my why, and to our board members, who, despite their demanding real-world commitments, consistently step up and actively contribute to our mission for positive change.
