We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Matteucci and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As Christina Matteucci Executive Director, I produce complex, high-stakes celebrations for event designer David Beahm and this March marks my 22nd year as his “Number Two.” Events executed under my leadership are works of art: complete with engineering wonders, Michelin-star cuisine, horticultural masterpieces, and no-fly zones. I travel the world in what can only be described as a dream job—telling the stories of our clients.

As TeucciMama, Professional Provocatrice, I inspire and motivate an ecosystem of corporate creatives as an inspirational speaker and coach. But, when I’m on stage, I tell my own stories! Stories that are filled with honesty, vulnerability and fortitude. With a little bit of self-effacing humor and a lot of real talk, in sharing my messages I galvanize those around me to live their most genuine and fulfilled lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I graduated in May 2001 from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, the world was my oyster. I was up for a role in my first big Broadway show, and I was ready to conquer the world. Or so I thought.

In June I lost my beloved Grandmother; in July my 57-year old father passed away tragically, and on September 11, NYC and our Nation was utterly devastated. I was a broken shell of the eager, fearless, bold young human I had been just 3 months prior. But in the midst of my grief for my family and my city, I found quiet solace in the glossy pages of the bridal magazines I’d collected since I was a young girl. I decided, if those magazines were the only thing bringing a smile to my face at that time, then I had better look into a career in special events.

I did my homework and found a man who had just started his NYC event design firm—David Beahm—his company was only four years old but he was already making waves, collaborating with huge celebrities, and I just knew, I could help organize his artistry. I was going to make that man an utter success and nothing was going to stop me. So I set my plan in action…

On the first Monday of every month I faxed David a cover letter and a resume, followed by a phone call on the following Wednesday to ensure he had received said fax.

This went on…

for 8 months…

until he granted me an interview.

I have been with David ever since. From Secretary to Executive Director, I’ve lived an amazingly successful small business adventure. And while I haven’t left his side, David also gives me his full endorsement and encouragement on my own path, sharing my story on stages around the world as Teuccimama, and helping fellow creative professionals on their own journey to success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh – New York City is MAGICAL – I would encourage everyone to visit this place I now call home.

Big shoutouts on my “Must See/Do/Have” list:
– order soup dumplings at Joe’s Shanghai
– take a pedicab ride through Central Park
– get dressed up to have high tea at the Plaza Hotel
– toast on a sunset Circle Line Tour
– book a reflexology appointment at Angel Feet
– snarf down a burger from Corner Bistro
– play a game of shuffleboard at Royal Palms in Brooklyn
– see Moulin Rouge! The Musical in all its splendor
– indulge in a cannoli from Veniero’s Pasticceria & Caffe
– take in the view from the Top of the Rock
– get that toasted everything bagel with cream cheese and lox (with onion and capers please)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am tremendously indebted to the liberal arts educators in my life without whom, my career would not be what is is now. From my beginnings in English class at Holy Names High School in Oakland, California, to my professional education at A.C.T. (American Conservatory Theater)’s Young Conservatory in San Francisco and throughout my rigorous training at N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts, these tireless educators and artists have pushed me to fly far beyond the limitations or expectations I had for myself. I still consider them my mentors today.
