Hi Karla, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The key to my success lies in the invaluable network of advisors, mentors, and coaches who have played a pivotal role in nurturing my professional leadership skills, helping me achieve my goals, and guiding me towards my higher purpose.

As the CEO of a woman-owned business, I firmly believe that cultivating women leaders necessitates the removal of barriers and the provision of educational opportunities, career experiences, resources, and mentorship that cater to their specific needs. This comprehensive approach continues to propel me towards successful leadership, and I am determined to apply this formula within my business and my community involvement.

When I established Authentic Web Solutions, I was initially unaware of the tremendous responsibility that accompanied its name. I had a vision for the company I wished to create and the type of leader I aspired to be – someone who embodied authenticity. Professionally, I had achieved notable success based on integrity, but personally, I felt like an imposter. Including “Authentic” in the company name was my way of holding myself accountable, and it subsequently transformed both my personal and professional growth.

Initially, I believed that embodying authenticity in business entailed conducting oneself with seriousness, composure, and unwavering integrity. In my personal life, it meant approaching others with love, compassion, and kindness, and being my happy go lucky self. However, the concept of “Authentic” has evolved over time.

Leading with wholeheartedness was always part of the plan, but little did I know that it would necessitate extensive self-exploration, therapy, workshops, conversations, and coaching to truly embody the essence of authenticity. I do not claim to have all the answers, but I have come to realize that being authentic becomes easier when we are solely accountable to ourselves and a select group of satisfied clients who already hold us in high regard. As the company expanded and I began assembling a team, authenticity became a daily choice – to show up as our genuine selves, to be honest, and to let our true essence radiate. That meant doing that with ourselves, each other and with our clients. It is an ongoing journey of growth and self-discovery, and I am committed to upholding the name “Authentic” every single day.

As stereotypes and barriers are dismantled, and as women are provided with mentors and resources, I firmly believe that more women will ascend to the upper echelons of leadership in companies and organizations. Women are exceptional leaders, and the presence of women in leadership positions holds immense importance.

Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy, but overcoming challenges has taught me invaluable lessons. I’ve learned the importance of effective communication and strategic decision-making during difficult times. I’ve learned adaptability to embracing change, and the power of genuine connections. As a “Woman in Tech” before it became a thing, and as a single mom navigating multiple roles, I understand the challenges of starting and scaling a business. Through resilience and determination, I’ve overcome obstacles and now devote to empowering others to carve their own paths.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting New Mexico, I would plan an unforgettable long weekend trip with a fantastic itinerary. Here’s a glimpse of what we would do:

Day 1: Start the day with brunch at Old Town Farms in downtown Albuquerque, enjoying delicious food and a vibrant atmosphere. Afterward, we would head to the Georgia O’Keeffe country to explore the rich history and breathtaking landscapes that inspired her iconic artwork.

Day 2: We would spend the day immersing ourselves in the local culture and vibrant art scene of Albuquerque. we would take a scenic drive along the Turquoise Trail, a historic road that winds through picturesque landscapes and charming towns. We could make stops at unique attractions along the way, such as the Madrid Ghost Town showcases an eclectic collection of folk art.

Day 3: Let’s indulge in some relaxation and rejuvenation! We would venture to Ojo Caliente, known for its magical hot springs. We would soak in the soothing waters, allowing all our worries to wash away. The serene surroundings and therapeutic qualities of the hot springs would provide the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Day 4: For our final day, we would enjoy a leisurely morning exploring the picturesque streets of Santa Fe, known for its adobe architecture and vibrant art scene. We could visit the renowned Santa Fe Plaza, browse the art galleries, and savor a delicious meal at one of the local restaurants, indulging in the flavors of the Southwest.

Throughout the trip, we would encounter fascinating people, places, and things that make this region so special. From the friendly locals who share stories of their heritage to the awe-inspiring landscapes that showcase the beauty of nature, every moment would be filled with fun, excitement, and a deep appreciation for the unique charm of the area.
