Meet Chloe Brown | DJ & entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I think the single most important decision we, Vinyl and Patties, did to contribute to our businesses success is to remember that DJ is often seen as a hobby or a brand, at best, but we decided early on to focus on seeing this as a business. Full monetizing not only our skills and time, but also sound equipment sales, offering classes and being a record store. As a result, we’ve found a niche and are in high demand and nurturing a number of business relationships.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vinyl and Patties is a multihypanate business based in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded by DJ ChloeBeeBlessed and DJ Official Tarikh. We are DJs, a record store, an equipment rental company, arts educators, a creative incubator, a thrift store, and a pop up cafe. What sets us apart is that ‘We are the culture’. We represent and augment hiphop culture and curate safe spaces for self expression. As DJs, producers, and musicians, as well as parents it’s important to continually express ourselves and create platforms to manifest the things we love about the communities were from. We also push to cultivate the next generations of musicians.
Initially founded in 2019, we fell into DJing through buying a DJ mixer while visiting back home in LA. as musicians always in need of a DJs being able to become our own was a major key! We got our first booking through word of mouth, and literally the rests history.
Even with the pandemic raging, we still got booked consistently and even went digital. One highlight being working with Afro ComicCon and Pixar! Everything that could go wrong, did. Dropped off the stream and freezing almost ruined the set but we got it together and ended up finishing strong, and having one of the most memorable sets of the event.
I think this experience with Pixar perfectly highlighted our journey. In many ways so much the could go wrong, did. Especially in starting a DJ business and being struck with a pandemic a year later, we’ve been handed a unique set of circumstances and we continue to rock out!
Vinyl and Patties is a unique imprint to Colorado Springs and want to impact Olympic City AND the world!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our favorite spots vary throughout the state. Because we’re CA transplants, very used to LA traffic, we have no problem popping into Denver or Fort Collins from Colorado Springs. The itinerary when in Colorado Springs is always Coati for lunch and a show, who knows, one of us might even be DJing or popping up with some records, Pattis and vintage wares, or freestyling. Then we like head up to Everest Nepal on Bijou *insert chef’s kiss. Or if were in Denver were hitting up Saftas. After something to eat, we’re hiking Garden of the Gods style, cause it’s only right for content’s sake, or headed up to Manitou Lake, or Cripple Creek. if were opting for a more chill vibe, we like to take a nice walk on Fountain Creek. Manitou Springs is always a good time. It’s so cute and the perfect place to get some ice cream and do some gift shopping. When we’re coming down from Manitou, it’s only right to hit up my girl Donna at Mountain Metaphysical, or the Broom Circle. We love a good estate sale, Goodwill and the Arc have my heart, or a good ole trip to the bins always tickles my fancy. If shopping is on the menu, we take every one over to The Hause or Eclectic Co, maybe take a class at Food to Power. Maybe, get drinks at Luxe Daiquiri Lounge or an acai bowl from Ola Juice Bar or tacos at Dos Dos. I love to hit up the Fine Art Center with my kiddos (I love a good rainy or snowy free art museum day!), I might pop out at The Garden or the Well, or take a workout class at Anthem Live Studios. If we’re headed south, love to pop out to Pueblo and take my kids to the zoo or the pool at city park and enjoy ice cream and the rides after. If we’re up north we are hitting upbeats Bodega at River Bar, Your Moms House, Gypsy House, IRL Gallery, The Common Collective, The Museum for Black Girls, The Orchid, Villa, any Scatta AfroBeat event or Axum Ethiopian restaurant. Might hit up Boulder for a CU game, or the slopes with Slide Thru Saturdays. If I’m in Fort Collins we up at the Lyric. I’m always down for Aspen or Breckenridge too. Basically, if your coming to visit us in CO, we’re doing it BIG!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
