We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsey Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are pretty much what shaped my entire career so i’m very adamant about risk-taking. I am however, also passionate about waiting to make sure spirit is telling you to take the right risks. I feel like signs play a role in everything. If you are getting signs that point you in a certain direction, that’s where you should put your risks. I feel like the more you do this, the easier things will get and those “risks” will just feel like guiding roads from spirit.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try to design works that I don’t see anywhere else. All my pieces are intentional and have a purpose. I design jewelry with energy in mind. Almost everything I make comes from my brain intuitively and all my pieces have some sort of intention, whether it’s bringing more confidence, helping the feminine power emerge or helping with anxiety and protection. If I don’t feel it, I can’t make it.
As far as what i’m most proud of, my portal necklaces are probably up the top. I designed a series of necklaces that look almost like solar system that can be spun to help with negative energy and anxiety. Those i’m very proud of.
When I first started back in my hometown in Alabama 4 years ago, things were much smoother since the cost of living there was so much cheaper. But I was also living in the south so that was a downside for me as well lol. I think the biggest Challenge has just been navigating through inflation/the cost of living here in Denver. Really had to get both my hussles going with jewelry and photography,
As far as what I want the world to know, I think the most would be how important it is for women to heal their feminine energy and bring about their true confidence. That’s what gets me the most excited. Hearing about how my jewelry has literally helped women heal their confidence issues in the past brings me so much joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As far as little quick places to eat with good food, I really love Denver central market. You can go wrong because they have a little bit of everything and all their food is amazing. As far as awesome local places to shop, I would take them to Terra Apothecary. Such amazing local apothecary with tons of ethical, handmade local artists, vendors, and creators. As far as a good hangout spot where the vibes are always immaculate, Mercury Cafe in Denver is probably my favorite new local spot. Its an amazing jazz cafe/bar with awesome events, great food, great music and good people. There’s always something interesting happening there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Nyasha Williams of writing to change the narrative is an amazing poc book author who helps uplift and inspire children of color in our community as well as an amazing spiritual teacher and has her own set of tarot cards oracle decks and planners specifically designed for women of color. She’s done a lot to help uplift me and find my purpose in Denver and i’m looking forward to continue working with her.
