Meet Daniel Collins | Owner/Copper Club Brewing Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For many years, I wanted to start my own business. Most people spend time dreaming about starting their own business and I was no different. The problem was selecting a business type that I believed in enough to risk all my time and money. Once I started making beer at home, I knew this was something that I wanted to do professionally. From there, I went to school for training and then opened a small Homebrew Supply shop. Over the next ten years, it was a process of small steps and persistence that grew the small shop into a full scale brewpub. For me the thought process behind starting the business was pretty straight forward. Start with a solid knowledge based foundation of the product. Open a small manageable business. Learn and focus everyday. With these steps in place, the business seemed to growing naturally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a BBA from the University of Georgia and a degree in Business Education from Northern Arizona University. Over the years I have had many jobs. The main core of my experience has been in education, construction, and sales. After attending the American Brewers Guild Master Brewer program, I had the foundation for starting a business in the brewering industry. I started with a Homebrew Supply shop and from there it grew into a full scale Brewpub. One of the lessons I learned along the way is to attend to the small details immediately. The small details of running a business can pile up if left unattended and this can be a tremendous source for stress. Systematically taking care of small details everyday allows a business owner the ability to execute the overall business plan or the big picture.
I do not need the World to know my brand or story. I am focused on providing the local community of Fruita with a safe and fun place to enjoy high quality products, service, and entertainment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the reasons that I moved to western Colorado was for the outdoor activities and adventure. I have lived in many places and states aroung the country and I particularly like Fruita, CO for the combination of a small town surrounded by world class outdoor activities. Here is a partial list: Hiking in the Colorado National Monument; Skiing at Powderhorn, Rafting the Colorado River; Mountain Biking or Motocross at 18 RD in the Fruita Desert; Snowshoeing on Grand Mesa, Fishing at Highline Lake State Park.; Rocking climbing in Unaweep Canyon. The possibilities for adventure here are endless.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I could list many people that helped along the way but number one on the list is my wife Michele. She has been a 50/50 partner from the start. She is smart, kind, and motivated. She has worked very hard to ensure the success of Copper Club.
