We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Dufour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a parent, work/life balance is critical to healthy home life and to maintain your sanity,
The balance comes down to priorities,
God > Husband > Kids > Everyone else > Work
With that being said, I have made efforts over the years to set up my blog and work to be done at home so I can support my kid’s childhood as well as financially contribute. But for my own sanity I have to be able to work in the ways I can.
Before, I only had my husband that I prioritized spending time with and we share similar passions and dreams so it was easier to “work” even when it didn’t feel like working.
With kids it doesn’t work that way. I have to extend a lot of grace to myself throughout the week when I didn’t accomplish all of my extravagant work goals, but celebrate the progress I did make during the week.
The balance comes from both, priorities and self-grace. I have a limited amount of time with my kids before they will be grown, that’s irreplaceable, my work will still be there waiting for me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing I’ve learned along the way is that entrepreneurship is like standing on a weight scale, in the long run it’s just a number. It fluctuates. Sometimes it are right at your goal, and sometimes you have more work to do to get back to it again.
Though my personal professional goals have changed in the last several years to actually be slower and less busy, I had to change my perspective on the definition of success.
If my business(es) have the outcomes I want and need them to be while working in the order of my priorities, I see that as success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As many local breweries as you can find in the afternoons. Basil and Barley Pizza, Piglatin, Biscuit Company/Atomic Cowboy for dinner. Any and all hiking trails in Manitou springs, and near Red Rock Open Space.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I was taught growing up that perseverance and excellence were imperative to life, not just successful work. I am thankful to have learned to have that mindset so early.
Next would be the encouragement from those around me, my husband, family, and friends to pursue dreams and ideas that might even fail, but for the sake of trying and figuring out what works and how to make it better.
