We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jean Marie Miller, LPC, LMHC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jean, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I most recently took the biggest risks of my career. After 20 years in higher education administration (with 16 being in one university), I took the leap and decided it was time to make a significant life change. After the unexpected loss of my husband in 2020, something in my soul told me that in order to take care of myself and begin healing, it was time to resign from my role in the Dean’s office. That decision had led me to incredible learning experiences and personal and professional growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hopefully, they come in the Summer or Fall, when there’s no show and plenty of outdoors activities to do! Meals and drinks on some outdoor decks, listening to live music. A concert at Red Rock’s is a must! You can’t come to Colorado without a drive up into the beautiful Rocky Mountains!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When life changes abruptly, you have no choice but to allow the shift to happen. Profound loss has rocked me to my core. Rather than fighting against the waves of change and grief, I have been on a healing journey of transformational change. I’ve met some incredible people along the way who have showed up and walked alongside me. Dear friends, old and new, inspirational healers and spiritual guides, strong. business owners and private practitioners- all of whom are motivational role models that inspire me on a daily basis. Most importantly, my family and special friends Who consistently have my back and show me the way. Special shoutout to our two amazing children, Donnie and Morgan.
