Meet Jennifer Buchanan | Reiki Master and Certified Emotion Code and Body Code Practitioner and chiropractic office assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Buchanan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Using mantras and affirmations is a powerful way to match and enhance your energy – with what you are moving towards or what you are currently expressing. I find that when I connect with a quote, it is usually because the energy of those words resonate with me at that time. That being said, there are quite a few that I do love –
“Where your gaze goes, the energy flows”
Examples of this are everywhere – if you are looking at new cars and love “X” type of car, all of a sudden those cars are all around you – in every color and style. This is a wonderful reminder to focus on what you have and the goals you have, because if you focus only on pain and suffering, you will always find a lot of pain and suffering.
“May I live like the lotus, at ease in muddy waters.”
Every week people tell me they want less stress in their lives. Being a human has its stressful moments, it just does, but being able to stay grounded and find peace within those stressful moments is an attainable goal. We work on ways we can manage our bodies during the stress that is presented to us (watching our breath, heart rate, feeling and processing our emotions, etc) to be able to walk effortlessly through our days.
“How you choose to show up magnetizes what shows up for you.”
This phrase, again, reminds us to show up for life with gratitude, love! I want to show up each day with curiosity, joy and an interest in people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my work in Fort Collins, CO, as a social worker working with abused women and children, juvenile delinquents and elementary school truants. I also worked for a sexual abuse prevention program in the elementary schools and a mentorship program. I have seen how generational trauma, feelings of being stuck, and poor health can affect our thoughts, behaviors and life. This work definitely had more challenges for me than the work I do now – finding time and positive ways to disconnect and recharge, working within the physical constraints of government agencies and not having a lot of options for the care and healing of clients. After 25 years of this work, I had a major moment of clarity from a stroke that pushed me to work with people in a different way that I had known. I now spend my time with people in a non-traditional way to find more peace, joy and energetic, physical, emotional and spiritual healing.
We work together to find old emotions, underlying imbalances and distorted energy, from their current lives or inherited from ancestors, that are keeping them from living fully. I work with them to create balance and coherence in their lives as they recapture the joy of the living moment.
I found that when I committed to do this work, opportunities fell into place (where the gaze goes, the energy flows) and I was living more connected to the natural flow of my life. I have learned to trust the process, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get in the way of that trust every now and then! My ego mind – being human – still creeps in asking why, trying to create a different timeline for something, wanting an answer now, creating doubts. It is what I do with those thoughts, now, that create harmony instead of stagnation.
I am a Reiki Master and a certified Body Cody/Emotion Code practitioner. Most of the work I do now is from a distant or over the phone and that allows me to work with people of all ages from all across the globe. These techniques are also great for helping animals through trauma, injuries or just getting comfortable in a new home. Energy is not bound by time or space so we can work together from anywhere!
Reiki is a technique that works with the energy in and around us. Our bodies are meant to have energy moving throughout it un-interupted. By identifying areas where the energy is slow, sludgy or just off, we can work to establish balance which then encourages stress reduction, relaxation and healing.
The Emotion Code and Body Code techniques are used to identify trapped emotions and underlying imbalances that are contributing to the dis-ease that a person is experiencing. From toxins, pathogens and emotions to imbalanced energy systems or misalignments, this technique can identify specifics in and around the body that can be balanced.
The combination of these modalities, and balancing our magnetic fields, creates a beautiful flow of energy that helps calm and a pathway for health (whatever that looks like for you).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Collins has so many amazing places to see! Visiting Horsetooth Reservoir is a must in any season, it is so beautiful. You can hike in the parks to the west of the water, walk down to the swim beaches or paddleboard/boat. A hike to Horsetooth Falls is great for kids/adults, especially in the spring/early summer when the snow is melting and the falls are running.
A drive to one of the hikes in the Poudre Canyon or to Picnic Rock to wade in the water is another great spot to spend time outside. A stop at Mishawaka in the canyon for a concert or a meal is definitely on the list, too. A great stop for after hiking to watch the river, rafters in the summer and hummingbirds!
Spending time downtown to eat and shop is also on the list. Coopersmiths is a great restaurant that has been around for more than 30 years. It has a great patio where you can eat in the summer and listen to concerts on the Old Town Square or just people watch.
Pinball Jones is a fun pinball place for all ages that also has older arcade games to play.
Ace Gillet’s is a great place to listen to live music and have a meal that is located beneath the Armstrong Hotel.
And a stop downtown has to include a trip to the Town Pump bar – a small 115 year old bar, the oldest bar in Fort Collins.
Fort Collins has hundreds of miles of trails through the city. Riding bikes or walking all over the city.
And if you like breweries, you could spend days visiting them all! Odell’s, Rally King, New Belgium (they do great tours) and more, and they are all accessed by the city trails.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My interest in non-traditional healing started because of a referral from my chiropractor, who I now work for, to a “brain lady”. Dr Melissa gave me the last business card she had for Nancy Evans, now with Thrive CommUnity Acupuncture. Nancy has this beautiful way of working with the energetic body that encourages healing and she delights in her clients living “full and happy lives”. I was inspired to learn as much as I could from her when she was working with my children. I then studied Healing Touch with Lauri Pointer and received my Reiki Certifications with Ann Bibbey – both of whom exposed me to a big world I had never experienced and fueled my curiosity to learn more!
My friends and family became my practice clients and I am forever grateful for their patience, acceptance and the love they showed me, especially all of the support from my husband, as I continue to learn and train.
