Meet Judy Doherty | Denver based mixed media artist painting with sustainability topics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy Doherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Judy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started painting alongside my mom when I was 4, so art has always been a part of my life. I really enjoy bringing the pollinator importance to life in my art and also in bringing joy to people’s walls!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I aim to illuminate the importance of pollinators and the urgent need to protect their habitats. With the declining populations of butterflies and other pollinating insects, we face a looming threat to global food security and ecological stability. This concerns me since my lifelong career has been dedicated to the food industry, from service to advertising. I strive to raise awareness of this pressing environmental issue through my art.
The vibrant and dynamic colors in my paintings mirror the diversity and vitality of pollinators, highlighting the symbiotic relationship they share with the natural world. As viewers engage with my artwork, I hope they are inspired to pause, reflect, and consider pollinators’ immense impact on our lives. By cultivating an appreciation for the intricate dance of nature, we can foster a sense of interconnectedness and compassion towards all living beings.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being in my garden and also visiting local gardening stores to learn more about native plants. The Butterfly Pavillion in Westminster, CO is an amazing educational resource.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really enjoy being a coop member of D’art Gallery in the Sante Fe Art District. And of course my school, UC Berkeley Extension really did an amazing job at helping me find my artist voice.
