We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma & Tony Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alma & Tony, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The truth is it wasn’t my own idea to create an Instagram page. I used to post many restaurants on my personal Instagram stories and friends would always ask me for recommendations. One of my dear cousins was the one to suggest I create a food page, so I contemplated it for weeks. As an introvert it seemed impossibly daunting. It took a lot of encouragement, but with my husband Tony besides me for support in the social aspect, I decided to take a shot and so we created Que.Antojada together.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart from other foodies is our personal tastes!
We were both raised in Colorado by Mexican immigrant parents, which meant there was always the best home cooked meals at home (hay comida en la casa!). Like many other Mexican American kids, we didn’t explore many other cuisines until we were old enough to go out on our own but once we did we never stopped and we want to encourage others to do the same! We love fancy and aesthetic meals like anyone else but we especially love getting to find the real hidden gems that everyone has access to and can go visit casually anytime! There’s nothing like a good taco truck!

We are most proud and excited about working with VisitAurora as part of their creative collective because it has been amazing watching the city evolve before our eyes and now we get to be a small part in promoting it!

Getting to where we are now has been easy for us. We never put too much pressure on ourselves to grow at a certain pace or post more than we could handle. We simply prioritized being authentic and having fun!
Along the way we’ve learned a lot about content creation, if you scroll down our Instagram page to some of our earlier reels just a year ago, you can clearly tell by the quality that we’ve learned a lot!

We just want whoever comes across our page to know that we are just your average Colorado Latino couple who you can count on to share food and entertainment we actually enjoy!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a whole week, I’d take them to all my favorite places we go to so often so that they could experience the absolute best time Colorado has to offer!
First, we’d definitely take a day or two to go to Glenwood Springs. On arrival we’d stop by Sweet Coloradough for the best breakfast sandwiches and doughnuts! Next we’d visit the Iron Mountain Hot springs to have some frozen cocktails and relax in the hot water (best combination)! After soaking we’d go to dinner at Brava Modern Trattoria in downtown Glenwood Springs. Finally we’d probably convince ourselves to stay the night to do it all again the next day!
After that little trip, we’d come back and explore Aurora! First stop, the Stanley Marketplace for some Denver Biscuit Company for brunch then lots of shopping! Next, a theater show or art gallery viewing of whatever is currently on at The People’s Building. Going south for the evening on Havana, we’d have dinner at Leezakaya or maybe Seoul kbbq & Hotpot. After dinner we’d end the night singing our hearts out at one of the many Karaoke bars like Muse Noraebang that rent private rooms by the hour!
Of course we’d need to check out Denver too! It could not all be done in one day so I’d take a couple days to visit places like the Denver art museum, Meow Wolf, and the Denver Zoo. The RiNo district is our favorite area for lively bars and local food trucks! I would also recommend Bao Brewhouse or Alma Fonda Fina for more upscale and fine dining!
A week is not nearly enough time to explore all of our favorite spots but I think this would be enough to have the most fun packed week!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without my support system there would be no Que.Antojada! I would like to thank my cousin Keyla R who initially encouraged me to start this journey. I also want to thank my husband Tony who’s always there for moral support, to take the reigns on socializing at events, and for being the main face in our reels!
