We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmy Lawrason-Kobobel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmy, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I’m a physician, but many people don’t realize that there are Doctor’s of Osteopathic Medicine (DO’s) and Medical Doctor’s (MD’s). These are the two paths to become a licensed physician in the United States. The difference that most people don’t know is that DO’s learn how to do hands on manipulation. We learn everything from the “cracking and popping” techniques (High Velocity Low Amplitude, HVLA) to much more gentle styles of manipulation. My particular style is very gentle and utilizes what is called Cranial Osteopathy. I do love and appreciate though that because I am a physician, I can prescribe medication, order x-rays and MRI’s as well as lab studies.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a solo physician medical practice specializing in traditional cranial osteopathy, treating all ages. We take a gentle hands-on approach, and can treat everything from low back pain, neck pain and traumatic brain injuries to babies with trouble latching after birth. Another passion of mine is optimizing men’s and women’s hormones and I just completed a course with A4M in advanced endocrinology to work toward a fellowship in anti-aging metabolic medicine. My focus is on the patient and we have designed the practice to spend a lot of time with each patient. I want my patients to feel understood and heard, and know they are getting the best, most comprehensive care possible.
I have gotten to where I am today with a lot of hard work! This is the second medical practice I have developed – my first was in Bend, Oregon. When we decided it was time to come back to Colorado, I was reminded how much it takes to restart a medical practice!
The biggest lesson I have learned along the way is patience. It just takes time to grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them outdoors! Hiking and mountain biking are two of my favorite activities here. If it was winter, I’d take them to Purgatory Ski Resort. I would recommend Frida’s mexican restaurant or a drink at Union Social House. And last but not least, a soak at Durango Hot Springs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to Andrew Weil’s book, Spontaneous Healing. It is where I first learned about osteopathy and realized this was what I was meant to do. Also, Dr. James Jealous. He is one of my mentors. He stands out as an incredible teacher and I will forever be grateful that I was able to study with him for 16 years, from 2003 until 2019.
