Meet Apollonia Magee | Nonprofit organizer and handmade creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Apollonia Magee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Apollonia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The way I came up with my business. First, since this interview came to Justus Angels account let’s get to know my nonprofit a little more. The way I came up with my nonprofit that is for pregnancy and infant loss awareness is I am one in four women who had a miscarriage. This nonprofit is for anyone who is a part of or support pregnancy and loss awareness. Justus Angels for anyone who has gone through a miscarriage, still born, SIDS, or a child loss. This group is to uplift individuals during a hard time because I have been in those shoes. I had to go through this by myself, and if I have anything to do with it, I don’t want any woman or anybody to go through this tragedy by themselves. Coming out of the OR having my DNC I was giving a box and sent home. In the box, I was given a poem, booklet pamphlets, brochures, tissues, lotions, and a sticker. At that time, I was grateful. Back to life right, wrong, grief hit me hard. Did I mention this was during COVID? I have to go to the hospital every week to go get my HCG levels down. The hospital call me to see if I want my babies remains. I told them no not know that I could have had my baby cremated for free. So for me, it was the lack of the unknown. As a woman and a woman of color we were told to be quiet, your strong, etc. That’s a lot and it’s not OK. So now I feel like it’s my duty to spread that love and that let whomever know, it’s OK and how to heal from such an experience in life. That’s why in October will not mourn but celebrate. Celebrate the now and the healing. The different ways of celebration that Justus Angels will partake in will be games, raffles, giveaways, and more. With this nonprofit Creative Apple donates healing boxes to the women healthcare unit or hospital. Creative Apple is one of my businesses where I bring your creativity to life and make one of a kind creations. Now, that I am 1:4 women who have had a miscarriage I took my negative and turn it into a positive, and I will spread that positivity. The first year within the year I lost my baby, I celebrate October by celebrating with 12 new and old mothers that have gone through a miscarriage or a loss. I donated 12 boxes and shared their stories with the ones who wanted to share to help someone else. I have been given back since then through the years and in October. This is how I came up with Justice Angels.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is I bring your creative ideas to life. I am most proud of the joy and blissful expression on my clients heart. I take everyday a step at a time and to have a great balance between life and work is how I been professional today. It was easy to think of what I wanted to do but work is not is and Rome wasn’t built in a day. I have learned to make mistakes because for one being perfect is boring and for two there is no mistakes in art. I want the world to that if it’s Justus Angels, Creative Apple, or Apple’s Hair Care you will feel heard because you will be heard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie is visiting we have to eat. This way we are aware. Next we are going on a hike in the mountains. This is so, we can unplug and give back to ourselves with fresh air and ideas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give shoutout to my husband, children, and my hair clients at that time. Once I was able to see clearer and talk more about my situation and feelings my husband was there to listen and help me heal. My children was there, there to make sure I eat, there to make me smile, there for hugs, kisses, and conversations. Lastly, I was a hair stylist and one of my clients went through a miscarriage. When I tell you she was there for every question, doubt, or just need to talk, she was there.
