We had the good fortune of connecting with Markie Lindemulder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Markie, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Everything happens for a reason. It doesn’t. I feel like that advice is an excuse to not be responsible for your outcomes. Sure, somethings happen for reasons we can’t explain or control. But most things are just up to you. And having a say in your own success and happiness is a good thing!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud of the image production work I do at Altitude Sports Radio. What is that? I listen to our station all day. I find the most special moments of the day, isolate those moments, edit them down and set them to music and sound effects and play them back for our listeners who may have missed those moments. Our broadcasts of the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche are an incredible creative opportunity for me as well. If you’ve ever listened to a game on the radio, immediately before the start of the game, there is a :60 second period of time that belongs to me. It’s a blank canvass to create something to get our listeners excited for what’s about to happen. I write copy for our big voice to read. I mix in game highlights, music, movie drops, sound effects I’ve recorded with my phone at games, listeners talking about the teams and anything else I can get my hands on. No other broadcast in the NHL or NBA has unique game opens for every single game. I am very proud of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We must start at 7 Grand. It’s a dimly lit opulent whiskey bar in the dairy block downtown. It features over 750 whiskeys. And yet, I only ever order one, Garrison Brothers. I would insist on a meal at The Hornet on Broadway. My wife and I went on our first date there and shared a lobster mac and cheese. My life hasn’t been the same since. An Avalanche game at Ball Arena would be in order. And no trip to Denver would be complete without a stop off at Tracks Nightclub.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father did morning radio in Pittsburgh. I had the privilege of being inspired by him and the people he worked with. I knew I wanted to be a DJ when I was 7 years old. I learned that if you work at things you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. I’ve worked incredibly hard to use those gifts to achieve success and happiness. I was given experience and opportunities that others weren’t. In some ways I rode the elevator up. But I never take it for granted. Thanks Dad.
