We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We celebrate being in the top 2% of women-owned businesses globally. The core factors for success are integrity and the willingness to evolve as we learn more. But outside of the core values of a business, what I attribute our success to most is the same thing that we teach our clients.
Each one of us has a relationship with our brain. Many of us start out believing our thoughts and assuming that change is difficult. But the truth is that we shape our brains every day. And if it feels like things haven’t changed for a long time, it’s probably because we’ve reinforced the same brain patterns over and over.
So when it comes to the success of our brand and the success of our clients, its key is to understand that we can create a brain that aligns with our most glorious goals.
Let me explain:
Our thoughts lead to our actions. Our actions create outcomes in our life. Most of us try to change our actions to change our outcomes. For instance, we try to work out more to be more fit, set aside time each day to work on a side hustle to make more money, or meditate so we have less stress. We all know what to do. The problem is we often don’t do what we know will benefit us. That is because we are trying to change our actions, and that feels like an uphill battle.
What gives us a much higher chance of success is focusing on the thoughts that drive our actions, rather than on our actions themselves. We can change our habits of thought. We can form new thought patterns at the root of what drives our habits. And that turns into lasting change, where our actions simply match our thoughts, and the resistance that held us back melts away.
At each new phase of our business, we have looked at where we need to adjust our thought patterns so success is just a natural result of this new level. And we teach our clients how to do the same.
We have done leadership training for the US Army and supported leaders at Adobe, National Geographic, Disney, and many other organizations. What we hear time and time again is how much easier it is to achieve success when we work at the thought level and develop a new relationship with our brain.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The She Center specializes in leadership training and executive coaching, utilizing tools to transform thought patterns, create optimal identities, and embody highly-influential communication. The She Center offers leadership training for organizations, high-level executive coaching with the Rise program, the ground-breaking Empower program which coaches women to lasting freedom from disordered eating, live events, and a She Circle Membership which brings together content, coaching, and community.
Knight and The She Center have taught Leadership and Communication trainings for the US Army, for those in Forbes 50 Over 50, Emmy award winners, and for team-members at National Geographic, Disney, and Adobe among others.
We are proud that our true north has always been what will serve women and humanity best. In industries that serve women, so often they are based off of women’s insecurities, patriarchal views of how women should perform, or women becoming less authentic versions of themselves. We have had the courage to focus our decisions on what will do the most good rather than what will turn the most profit. Both are important, but we believe that you will be rewarded most for doing what is right.
For the past 14 years, we have been building intentional communities of women. Places that are an oasis from the pressures and expectations that women carry. Safe spaces of connection that are protected from diet talk, body shaming, and the centering of men.
Our community is open and free to all and we invite those who feel inspired to join and share.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Denver, the most fun and memorable place to visit is Meow Wolf. This is so creative and delightful and you can spend a whole day here. For an outdoor stroll, Pearl Street in Boulder is delightful.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Steele Campbell is a writer and feminist who is a dedicated ally for women. He is an incredible model of healthy masculinity. As a white, male person he has examined his privilege and chosen to use it to uplift the voices of women of color and promote their leadership. He has been an incredible support in my personal story, and is an inspiration for how we can come together with empathy, understanding, and care.
