We had the good fortune of connecting with D’onna Manning and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D’Onna, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the most critical decision that led me to this journey was to stop depending on others and step out of my comfort zone. That is the only reason I am where I am right now and why I will continue to succeed in the future. Nothing good ever comes from being “comfortable.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today professionally has been a journey full of twists and turns. I graduated in 2022 with a degree in Chemistry and Sports Medicine and a Ballet minor, and while it gave me a strong foundation, figuring out how to combine my passions and interests was a challenge. Having so many interests—ballet, running, coaching, and health sciences—felt overwhelming sometimes, and it was easy to feel discouraged about which path to take.
What helped me push through was trusting that I didn’t have to pick just one thing. Instead, I started embracing how my different passions could connect. Becoming a Pilates coach, diving into the running community, and being an ambassador for various brands have shown me that following your heart can lead to unexpected opportunities.
It wasn’t easy—I faced moments of doubt, like questioning if I was spreading myself too thin or if my dreams were even realistic. However, leaning on my loved ones and the running community gave me the courage to take small steps forward. Ultimately, I learned that success doesn’t mean figuring everything out; it’s about showing up daily, pursuing what excites you, and trusting that your unique journey will take shape.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Denver for the first time, I’d want to give them an unforgettable mix of the city’s charm and fun! We’d start by strolling through the Denver Botanic Gardens, soaking in the beauty of the lush landscapes and vibrant seasonal blooms. It’s a peaceful spot and a great way to experience Denver’s natural side.
We’d head to Rioja for dinner—an incredible spot in Larimer Square that’s perfect for indulging in some creative, Mediterranean-inspired dishes. The food is phenomenal, and the atmosphere makes it feel extra special.
To round out the trip, we’d hit Topgolf for some light-hearted competition and a great time. It’s the perfect way to unwind and enjoy Denver’s lively vibe. With that mix of nature, amazing food, and fun, I’d make sure their first visit to Denver is one to remember!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am forever grateful for my mom and boyfriend— their love, support, and belief in me push me to chase my dreams and conquer every goal. I wouldn’t be here without them.
