We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Honea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always enjoyed cooking, hosting and preparing for events. I fell into creating large-scale grazing boards while putting together meals for my large, extended family. It became a great pairing of passions between food preparation and childhood art lessons. When I started receiving requests from family friends, friends of friends and extensive referrals it seemed like the right time to make this an actual business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love to lean into a theme- the crazier, the better. Whether my client is looking to lean into a particular color or some thematic element, I’m ready for it. Starting a business isn’t easy but it’s a lot more fun when it’s based on something you enjoy. Getting to know such a broad variety of people is thrilling. One of my favorite clients throws an annual Alice in Wonderland party and it’s a joy to work with her, figure out what seems to really fit her vibe and make something visual out of it. For me, this is painting with food.
It’s funny because I’ll look back on some of the boards I’ve created historically and pick things apart, piece by piece. I’d change a lot because I’ve learned a lot. I love every piece of the boards I create to have some exciting element to it rather than just throwing food onto a table. There are colors, textures and flavors that all coincide to make something delicious. The visual aspect of food affects how it tastes, so I want every bit of the experience to live up to my clients’ expectations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love living in Colorado so it’s great to show visiting friends and family around. We do an annual fall trip to Estes Park (along with most of the state) while leaf-peeping along the way.
My husband and I do a monthly visit with our friends to Ballistreri Winery in Denver; I absolutely love the close-knit family dynamic they have behind the business. Not to mention the wine!
The shops on Broadway are also a classic blast along with a stop at Sweet Action for some ice cream. And I have to say,
I’m so excited to see the recent overhaul of Casa Bonita. When I was new to Colorado I was brought there for a first date (there wasn’t a second) and it’s a far cry from that first trip.
A full day in Boulder and the surrounding area is an absolute must- I used to play roller derby with Boulder County Roller Derby and love to support them. There are some great restaurants on the west end of Pearl Street and my oldest works out of Boulder, so it’s a good excuse to visit him.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is unbelievably supportive in my charcuterie endeavors- they’re my biggest fans. I have a hard time taking a compliment but they make sure to lob them my way constantly. My mother passed away a few years ago but I think about how much she would have enjoyed my work if she was still here.
