We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Ball and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art has been my sanctuary, my language, and my truth. From a young age, I absorbed the belief that pursuing a career in art was a path fraught with uncertainty. However, deep within me, I sensed that creative expression was not just a passion but a necessity as fundamental as breath. The vibrant hues and subtle shades of color serve as my guide, bridging the gap between my internal landscape and the external world.
Through embracing this journey, I have learned the art of adaptability—transforming experiences, emotions, and societal expectations into a tapestry of creation. Each brushstroke is an act of defiance against limiting beliefs and the narratives that once sought to cage my spirit. I realized that artistry is not just about creating; it is a profound way of understanding the complexities of interpersonal dynamics and the emotions we navigate.
In every piece I create, there is a whisper of my story—an echo of pain transmuted into beauty, a reminder that our struggles can be the fertile ground for new beginnings. The alchemical process of transforming trauma into tangible forms of art isn’t merely a possibility; it’s a powerful truth that resonates beyond the canvas, inviting others to engage with their own stories.
By dismantling inherited beliefs and societal norms, I have reclaimed my voice and my right to thrive as an artist. My journey is a testament to the power of resilience and creativity. Art can indeed be a viable pathway—one that not only sustains me but also inspires others to recognize the beauty and potential within their own endeavors.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art transcends mere aesthetics; it is a transformative force that sparks personal growth and deep connection. My artworks are crafted with the intent to resonate with viewers, offering insights that mirror their own experiences. I strive for my creations to echo the universal messages I have woven into each piece, leaving a lasting impression long after I am gone.
My journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with vulnerability and resilience. Each artwork carries subtle messages, reminiscent of ancient cave drawings; they embody survival, hope, and love, revealing the complexity of human nature. My art serves as a testament to the alchemical process of rising above life’s challenges.
Early in my career, I faced significant risks and setbacks, such as renting a studio without a steady stream of sales. Driven by the vision of connecting with successful artists, I persevered only to encounter personal obstacles that forced me to adapt. However, in every challenge lies a lesson. Each experience has enriched my perspective and opened new avenues for my art.
Since childhood, I aspired to be an artist, despite the prevailing belief that artists struggle financially. My initial pursuit of a degree in therapy illuminated the toll that the industry could take on my sensitive nature, leading me toward an inevitable burnout. Now, I have reestablished my artistry, embracing a profound commitment to healing and inspiration. I harness creativity as a therapeutic tool, allowing my art to not only reflect my journey but also to inspire others on theirs.
What has made this journey rewarding is the exchanges. When a venue approaches me in awe after an exhibition, expressing a desire to collaborate again, or when I sell a piece and prepare it for mailing, I experience a profound sense of fulfillment. These exchanges are the heartbeat of my artistic endeavor; they remind me of the impact my work has on others. Each interaction, whether it’s a heartfelt conversation with a visitor or a simple thank-you note from a collector, fuels my passion and inspires me to create further. This deep connection with my audience is what drives me forward, a testament to the power of art to resonate and transform. The elation I derive from these experiences is a vital part of my journey, enhancing my dedication to my craft and reinforcing my commitment to sharing my vision with the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hotspring time and a road trip up to the Rockies! Time to get some energy out! First stop: Steamboat Springs for some snowboarding and after a thrilling day on the slopes, we will be indulging ourselves at Apres Burger Bistro; their burgers will melt in our mouths, after a long day of boarding this will be the perfect reward! Then we’ll be heading downtown, treating ourselves to delicious margaritas at Del Mezcal.
On the second day, we will unwind after a long day of snowboarding at the downtown hot springs and enjoy a cozy night at the Rabbit Ears Motel. The following morning, we’re off again, this time to Winter Park and going to hit the Mary Jane moguls. After another exhilarating run, we’ll refuel with a quick lunch at Randi Grill and Pub before heading to Glenwood Springs.
At Glenwood Springs, we’ll spend the day soaking at Iron Mountain Hot Springs, letting the warm waters melt away any remaining tension. After, we’ll hop on the gondola ride up to the caves. As the sun sets, we’ll enjoy chilling at South Canyon Hot Springs; this little nook is great for connect with locals and getting in touch with nature.
While summer calls for campfires at local campgrounds, winter brings its own charm. With a little pre-planning, we can still spark joy by ensuring we’re well-prepared with hand warmers and the right gear. Sorry can’t share the special camping spots, but the morning soaks at South Canyon will not only warm us up it’ll put some pep to our step. We are going to be exhausted at this point, maybe even dirty, and cold. Which means to the local breakfast joint at the daily Bread and coffee before the long road trip back to Denver.
On the way back we’ll stop in Frisco, one of my favorite little towns, grab a snack, maybe do some shopping downtown, and keep going. We’ll hangout in the Denver area for the last day or two, which means art districts! We’ll have to go to see music, which means we might need to do a quick drive up to Gold Hill for that good back country rustic feel good environment. In the end, my friend will be exhausted, and I will be stoked we got to share a taste of life in Colorado.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor, Dee Dee, is a beacon of light in my artistic journey. She emerged in my life precisely when I was seeking guidance the most, embodying the qualities of a true teacher whom I deeply respect. With her spiritual insights, she has unveiled my inner strength, opening my eyes to my true potential and what I can contribute to the world through my art.
My children are the heartbeat of my creative process. They remind me daily of the beauty and resilience in life, fueling my determination in times of challenge. Their laughter and curiosity inspire my work, infusing it with a sense of wonder and purpose. Each brushstroke I make is a tribute to their unwavering spirit, and I strive to capture their innocence and strength in every piece of art I create.
As I navigate this path, I am continually grateful for the guidance of Dee Dee and the inspiration of my children. They empower me to face obstacles head-on, transforming struggles into opportunities for growth and expression. Through my art, I aim to reflect the powerful connections I cherish, weaving together the threads of mentorship and motherhood into a vibrant tapestry that speaks to the strength we all possess within us.
