We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Oswald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Pennsylvania hunting and fishing. I went to Penn State for wildlife and fisheries science so that I could have a career in the outdoors. It wasn’t until I interned at a ranch in Texas that I figured out I could have a career actually hunting and fishing. With a science based education I think it really helps understanding not only the game we pursue but the science behind the management as well

What should our readers know about your business?
The business is actually made up of 4 different public land permits of which expansion was key. It started with Flat Tops Wilderness Guides, then purchasing Horn Fork Guides, then Pack String Ranch outfitters (now combined with Flat Tops Wilderness Guides, and most recently purchasing River’s Bend Outfitters. With so many different permits/areas/camps we are able to offer a hunting experience, fishing, or pack trip for almost anyone. The biggest thing was when an opportunity for growth popped up to take it and figure it out before the opportunity passed

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being that our business takes part AWAY from the city someone that wants a city experience should look elsewhere. If they are looking for an adventure this is the right spot. I think an epic journey horseback into the Flat Tops Wilderness area is where we would go and visit a new scenic spot each day and camp in one of our many wilderness camps. Fish a new spot that we access with horses and then spend a night at our private lodge on the edge of forest to complete the trip

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father, grand father, and great uncle were who introduced me to the outdoors and specifically hunting and fishing. My first boss who used to own the business that “rolled the dice” on hiring me even though I had little experience in western hunting
