We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am just getting started in my parenting journey, our son is 18 months old, and I have been able to be at home with him since the day he was born. Because of the blessing of being able to own my own companies, my husband has been able to leave his job and work with me, allowing us to be the primary influences on our son. I am in a position of being able to make decisions for HIS best outcome rather than decisions based on what society or employment demands force me to make. We are dedicated to raising our child with manners, positive association and education that will hopefully propel him to becoming an amazing man!

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the Owner of Diamond in the Rough Recovery and Co-Owner of Recovery Omega. Diamond in the Rough Recovery is a sobriety based company that supports those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction or misuse. Diamond serves in many areas of the state of Colorado including Denver Metro, Greeley and Northeastern Colorado. We offer individualized services based on the need of the person struggling. We have helped people go from living on the streets to being housed in sober living to gaining their own apartment to moving out of state! In the process of these successes they overcome the barriers that are keeping them from living a sober and clean life, enhancing their mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and financial stability.

Recovery Omega is the “Parent” company to Diamond in the Rough and other entities like it. Recovery Omega allows a network of like minded entities to partner together to create a greater impact. Recovery Omega provides the clinical support needed for those in recovery and provides the standards and regulations required by the State of Colorado in order to operate a Peer Recovery Coaching Entity.

Both Diamond and Omega operate with the “impact over income” philosophy. This concept started out as helping people even if their insurance doesn’t cover the service and has expanded to the idea of our Policies and Procedures as well as Ethical Standards. We want to leave a positive impact on this industry professionally by having operating standards that go above and beyond what is expected. We have created entire positions for employees to monitor and ensure this is happening. We operate with excellence, integrity, generous hearts, strife-free practices, starting from the top, all the way to the newest client seeking support!

It took a lot of work to get where I am. I had to work for free, a lot in the beginning. I had to get a regular job at The Original Pancake House to sustain my finances, hustled like crazy, made a lot of mistakes, cried, laughed, and had to learn a whole new skill set regarding the State of Colorado and Medical Insurance. I am continuously learning, and it was very challenging in the beginning, but has gotten easier as time goes by!

My biggest lessons have been about my instincts. I used to need a lot of evidence in one direction or another before feeling confident in my gut feeling about a person or situation. My instincts have been right 95% of the time, and I fully believe that God was nudging me the entire time. Trusting my instincts and seeking perspective from trusted people about it, and acting accordingly, is now my greatest tool!

I want the world to know that no matter what limits society has placed on you or the lids you have closed on yourself, YOU TOO, can be successful. On paper, I have several felony convictions and the restaurant industry was pretty much the only place I could work. People really do change, the version of me 10 to 15 years ago, is something that seems like a movie almost because God has restored so much in my life, soul and heart, that its unbelievable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely eat at The Original Pancake House. There isn’t a single thing there that isn’t delicious! Then we would go to Castle Rock and climb the stairs and hit the adventure park. Take a little nap in the afternoon while my toddler naps, and then cook some good food at home and soak in the hot tub.

We would definitely eat at Jaimes Mexican Restaurant with some awesome green chili and then hit the stairs at Red Rocks.

We would probably hit the Lodge casino one day and check out the cow eatery for Beajos Pizza on the way down.

We would get a pedicure at Anthony Vince Nail salon and eat a massive salad from Chick-fil-a.

The zoo would be on the agenda and potentially a stroll around Chatfield State Park or Clement Park.

Since Colorado has the best green chili we would probably eat at Los Dos for lunch or dinner one day and Tamale Kitchen for breakfast burritos on the last day!

And we would definitely get a cinnamon roll from TOAST in Littleton before she left.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have supported me on my journey through Recovery and Entrepreneurship. God knew my journey from the beginning and has rescued me from fires more time than I can count, He gives me favor in all things I do! My Parents have been supportive my entire life, perhaps even times when it broke them on every level and enabled me. Their love and continuous belief that I could and would succeed in this life has been the propeller for my ship. My husband Ryan is the calm to my crazy and allows me to grow in all directions of life while having my back no matter what. Both sides of our families make it possible for me to expand our companies by providing encouragement and help whenever we need it. My one of a kind business partner and Co-Owner of Recovery Omega, Meghan dreams big and pulls me in the way of success without even realizing it. Without our team effort, our lives and those that surround us would be very different! Sara Earnst, the Owner of The Original Pancake House, has been an amazing example to me on how to be a successful business woman in this world by showing me how to treat employees and associates, how to pay it forward and how to proceed during expected and unexpected challenges. She allowed me to work there with grace while building Diamond in the Rough and Recovery Omega. My core group of friends and strong women that I have leaned on throughout the years, bring my personal life to peace, allowing me to show up better in all my ways. My entire team with Diamond in the Rough Recovery and Recovery Omega, as well as all of the individuals that each one of them serve, contribute to my success. I am not much without them! And finally, to all of the experiences, the positive ones that made my heart smile, but especially the ones that made my heart sad. I wouldn’t have started my own companies without the people who were doing things with wrong motives, greedy hands, and belittling words. I wouldn’t have such a solid association of support and love without all the people who revealed their true selves, allowing me to go in a different direction. To all the Naysayers…THANK YOU!
