Meet Teevee | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Teevee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TeeVee, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was about the freedom. I had the freedom to do whatever it was that I wanted to and when I wanted to. Something about that feeling of freedom gives me a massive rush and at the same time it gives me clarity.
I also felt that the world needed another voice for emotion. The emotions that we all keep locked away and that we don’t tell anyone about. That’s why making music is so important to me. It’s a diary of my emotions that I know people out there can relate to and there’s no better feeling than being understood by somebody.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud that I had the confidence to let out all the deep and dark emotions that were in my heart. In modern times the only things you ever hear in rap songs are people talking about murder, drugs, violence, s*x with women, etc. While songs like that are “catchy and cool” I feel like we lost a big part of the rap culture, the fact that rap is poetry. It’s meant to have meaning. It’s meant to make you think about the words that are being said. To heal or inspire and I’m proud of the fact that I’ve touched people’s hearts with my words.
It wasn’t easy to get to this point. Nothing ever is but I stuck to it and that’s what lead me to having over 20 thousand plays in my first year of making music. For about 3 months I went on a music binge doing nothing but recording as soon as I got home from my job in the oil field. My passion for music was burning which gave my tired body the boost to keep going and creating. Hard work got me to this point and while I’m not a major artist I still feel like I’m on top of the world because of the effort I put in.
One thing I want people to know about me is that I’m just like them. I don’t come from a prosperous family. I work a blue collar job. I struggle with my bills. I struggle with relationships. I struggle with mental health. But the most important thing is, I get up and do what I need to do everyday just like everyone else, no matter what the situation is nothing can stop you but you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to come to Colorado Springs for a week long trip one of the first places I would visit is Tejon downtown. There’s plenty of exciting shops and nightclubs to keep someone busy for days. I would also stay a few nights up on old stage road in the mountains. It’s always a calming experience to camp with your friends and be disconnected from the world. It’s such a refreshing feeling coming back from a night or two of camping. I also recently discovered a boba bar by the chapel hills mall called Pandaz Boba Tea. They have a giant projector screen for karaoke, a fully stocked bar, and a bunch of board games to that you can use with your friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Nobody deserves more credit than my mom. Through thick and thin she’s been there for me. I remember walking into her room one day back in highschool and saying “I’m gonna start making music.” She looked at me and told that it’s an amazing idea. I’ve seen my mom go through every struggle imaginable and she’s always able to keep a strong and positive attitude. To me, that’s inspiring and it makes me want to be the same way. I could have never gotten on a stage and performed if I didn’t have her support.
