Meet Joshua Mitchell | Small Business Owner & Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Denver and moved around to several states throughout my childhood and teenage years. Living in so many different places gave me a rich, diverse perspective on life and taught me to approach everything with an open mind. I grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs, starting with my first job working for my parents at their local burger restaurant in metro Cleveland. My grandpa, who built a very successful career as an entrepreneur, also played a big role in shaping me. Every job I’ve held since I was old enough to work has been with small, local businesses, which has kept me deeply rooted in the community and fueled my appreciation for hard work and connection.

What should our readers know about your business?
Super Smash Burgers is all about serving a product we can stand behind—something simple, smashed-to-perfection, and worth every bite. What sets us apart is our commitment to holding ourselves to the highest standard, not just in the kitchen but in our personal lives too. That’s the backbone of our brand: quality you can taste because we live it every day. I’m proudest of how we’ve grown this from an idea into a growing Denver staple.
It hasn’t been a cakewalk. We’ve faced our share of challenges, slow months, the grind of keeping going on when you’re exhausted. Resilience is what gets us through. We know more hurdles are coming, but I’ve learned it’s not the challenge itself that defines you, it’s how you handle it. Push forward, lean on your team, and don’t compromise on what you believe in. That’s what’s gotten us here.
That’s our story, high standards, hard work, and burgers that hit different.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For breakfast I would stop at One Fold for a breakfast burrito. For lunch I would take them to Colorado Hots, a new restaurant in Wheat Ridge serving Rochester style garbage plates and wings. I would go to get drinks at The Porch near Larimer square and walk around the city. And end with dinner at Welton Street Cafe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Since I was 18, I’ve been living in Denver on my own, figuring out life without a roadmap. Back then, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be, but I was drawn to small business owners hustle and grit, and I knew I wanted to dive into the world of entrepreneurship. One of the biggest inspirations on that path has been Chef Mathew Yamali. I started working with him right when he launched his own business, and I’ve been there through every high and low that’s come with it. Those ups and downs helped me find my path, building something from scratch. Nearly 10 years later, I’m lucky to call him not just my business partner but a big brother too. He’s the one who deserves a shoutout for showing me what’s possible and sticking by me as I figured it out.
