We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Scialdone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what makes you happy? Why?
The thing that makes me the happiest is being outside in nature with my son. Hopefully instilling a love and respect for nature and wildlife that will stay with him his whole life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I chose to be an artist/creative because nature is as beautiful as it gets and I want to share that with others. When I’m out taking photos of wildlife I do try to make a composition that I think people would like and want to spend time looking at. At the end of the day my main goal is to get people to want to protect wildlife, I think photography is one of the best ways to do that because you are able to show people an animal or a behavior that they might otherwise never see. Hopefully creating interest and love for wildlife will in turn encourage people to want to protect and save what they love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest I don’t go out all that much so in that case I would take them to see some of the greatest natural beauty our state has to offer. One place that is very important to me is Rocky Mountain National Park, I would also take them to Soapstone Prairie, Red Mountain and the Great Sand Dunes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to say thanks to my wife and my family for supporting me, and I know it sounds funny but to all the wildlife hosts that I grew up watching on tv that really helped maintain that spark for nature and wildlife that I have always had. People like Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin and Austin Stevens.
