Meet Kimberly Murray | Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in Colorado Springs with my 3 siblings and parents. My family faced a series of challenges while I was growing up, including chronic illness, parental conflict and separation, addiction, abuse, financial struggles, and constant stress. It is due these difficulties and recognizing the impact they had on me and my relationships, that I sought therapy for myself during my second year of college. My therapist was my saving grace, helping me heal old wounds, set boundaries, and build the life I wanted and needed.
Upon reflecting on what this therapist did for me, I knew I wanted to offer that same support to others. Therapy has the ability to drastically change someone’s life, something I experienced firsthand. I then decided to pursue a masters in marriage and family therapy so that I could not only help individuals, but also families and couples in the ways my family desperately needed years prior.
After earning my Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies at Colorado State University, I went on to complete my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwestern University and my Doctorate of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy at Florida State University. Offering mental health support to my community is my passion and something I am privileged to do each day!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Safe Haven Family Therapy is a group mental health therapy practice, offering mental health support to anyone 3 years of age or older, including romantic partnerships and families.
I opened Safe Haven in 2018, just as a solo practitioner. The journey to reach where we are today has not been easy. Through consistent effort, grit, community engagement, a lot of support, and maybe even a few tears, I grew my practice to what it is today, a team of 4 incredible therapists that are capable of serving the entire family in one place. We hold a strong reputation in our community, born from the specialized, compassionate, and quality care given by each of our providers. We recognized how privileged we are to be in our role, and we seek to never take that for granted.
In 2023 and 2024, we were voted by our community through NoCo Style Magazine to be one of the best therapy practices in Northern Colorado, providing quality, effective, and loving support to our community members and their families. As highly skilled therapists, we have received intense, specialized training in helping people reconnect with themselves, their loved ones, and their community. We are skilled in helping others identify the lives they most deeply desire, set a plan to overcome barriers, and achieve their goals.
We are a team of highly skilled and compassionate women, ready to support you on the next steps of your journey. We understand and can relate with many of the challenges you are facing, but also know the unmeasurable relief that comes with therapeutic support. We walk beside you in your therapy journey, encouraging you and supporting you each step of the way.
Every one is different with varying needs. We take an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring each step of the therapy process just to you. We offer both in-person and virtual therapy, allowing you to choose where you are most comfortable to receive support. Remember, therapy is for YOU, not for us. We simply want to be your safe haven from all of the challenges and stressors that life brings your way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to Old Town Fort Collins, trying the many local eateries and perusing the shops. One of my favorites is Mexican food at the Rio and some music and a beer at New Belgium brewery. I would then take them to Horsetooth Reservoir for a hiking, time on the water with a boat or paddleboard, and maybe even a little stargazing. I would then take them to my favorite coffee shop in Windsor at Coffeehouse 29. We would then make a day trip to Estes Park and visit Rocky Mountain National Park for some more time outdoors. This is only a fraction of what Northern Colorado has to offer and a week would just not be enough time for it all!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Chris Murray. We have been together for almost 19 years, and he has been my biggest cheerleader since I was 16 years old. Without him, I would not be where I am today!
