Meet Erin Meyers

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Erin Meyers again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Erin, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
I am Erin Meyers, licensed acupuncturist and owner of Wild Blue Acupuncture & Wellness. Since the last interview I’ve rebranded a bit, in addition to working on sports injuries and orthopedic conditions I’ve done more training on stress and anxiety, insomnia, migraines, and leaky gut. I believe that what sets me apart is my modern, science-based approach to the ancient healing art of acupuncture. I absolutely love learning about and sharing the explanation for why acupuncture is so effective. I’m currently pursuing a certification in Neuropuncture, which is a special system of applying neuroscience to the traditional TCM acupuncture model. I love being able to draw on my background in behavioral genetics and neuroanatomy and combine it with my current acupuncture practice.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
I am particularly excited about the new training I’ve been doing in Neuropuncture. I recently attended a seminar on treating TBI and concussion and the results so far have been incredible! Concussions are relatively common but current treatment options are primarily rest and medication to treat symptoms and the hope that you will get better on your own. With electroacupuncture we can use specific points and frequencies to increase the production of BDNF and GDNF (brain-derived and glia cell line-derived neurotrophic factor), proteins that can actually help the brain heal!
Of course I still love working on neck pain, back pain, and TMJ and have been refining my techniques to get even better results.
I’ve also joined the board of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado where we are working to increase membership, provide continuing education opportunities to local acupuncturists, make sure we are represented at the state level, and to promote the benefits of acupuncture to the public.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.
Favorite Movie: Clue
Favorite Book: To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis
Favorite TV Show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Sweet or Savory: Both!
Mountains or Beach: I love a beach vacation but give me the mountains for incredible views every day.
Favorite Sport (to play): Dancing
Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): My gym teachers all said I was incredibly enthusiastic despite my lack of athletic ability
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: Veterinarian
French Fries or Onion Rings: Onion Rings
Favorite Breakfast Food: Fried eggs and toast
When you look back on your life, what are three things you expect to be proud of?
When I look back on my life I will be proud of my resiliency and hard work. Going back to school to start a new career isn’t easy, and running a business is a constant challenge. When things don’t always go the way I expect I’ve stuck it out and kept on working.
I also hope to be proud of maintaining my friendships. Keeping friends as an adult can be hard, there are so many demands on our time and attention. I try to make sure to reach out to my friends if I haven’t seen them in a while, and let them know I’m thinking about them.
While it might sound selfish, I’m also proud of how I’ve managed to prioritize myself. I’ve made time to do things that bring me joy such as taking dance lessons, going to yoga classes, working in the garden, and snuggling with my cats.
