We had the good fortune of connecting with Jami Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jami, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Throughout my years as a hairstylist, I have cultivated a deep commitment to caring for my clients, which has been instrumental in my success. Providing my clients with the best possible service and solutions ensures they leave my chair feeling valued and beautiful.

Additionally, the endless support from my business network has played a crucial role in my success. Surrounding myself with mentors, peers, and industry contacts provided me with support, collaboration opportunities, and valuable insights.

Connecting with fellow stylists and salon owners has offered invaluable insights and allowed me to enhance my skills and grow my team. I would not be where I am today without my team. They have truly encapsulated the vision I have had for The Nurtured Curl.

This combination of dedicated client care and a strong professional community has created a solid foundation for my ongoing success!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I may be one of the most passionate cosmetologists you’ll meet. I quite literally grew up in the beauty industry. I am seventh in three generations of cosmetologists. I am also a seventh-generation Colorado native, a happily married mama of 3, and an aspiring minimalist.

From the beginning of my career, I could see naturally textured hair was beautiful and unique. These curls didn’t need to be tamed or removed, nor were they a problem to be fixed. They merely needed to be nurtured.
I am devoted to continuing my education.

You’ll often find me diving in and researching the newest techniques and product ingredients. I love providing the best possible service and solutions to my clients. But the passion for learning doesn’t stop with me. Passing on the education to each guest in my chair makes me come alive!

I am not satisfied unless you gain the knowledge to care for your curls at home. I want guests to have a great hair day every day, not just when they leave the salon. Healthy hair is always beautiful, and I want to teach guests how to keep it that way.

Curly hair isn’t nearly as complicated as you may have heard. I look forward to helping each guest embrace the incredible hair they never knew they had.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When you’re in Colorado Springs, there’s just so much to do! I’d kick things off at my go-to spot, Frankly Coffee. It’s such a cozy little place with fantastic coffee and tasty pastries—an absolutely perfect way to start the day.

After getting our caffeine fix, we’d definitely need to grab brunch. Garden of the Gods Gourmet and The Omelette Parlor both have some mouthwatering options that we can’t pass up!

Once we’re all fueled up, we would take a hike around Rock Ledge Ranch that connects to the Garden of The Gods. The views there are absolutely stunning with those iconic red rock formations—it feels like you’re in a painting!

If we’re in the mood to shop, we can head over to Old Colorado City. There are so many cute little shops like Circa, Eclectic, Hapke’s Hortum and Simple Body that I adore. It’s the perfect spot to find unique items and maybe a little something special to take home.

To wrap up our day, we’d take a little trip down to Florence and visit Desert Reef Hot Springs. There’s nothing like soaking in those soothing waters after a day full of adventures!

In Colorado Springs, every moment is filled with fun and discovery, making it an unforgettable experience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a proud small business owner, myself, I absolutely love supporting and celebrating other local treasures in our community! Among my favorites are The Living Room, Urbane Collective, Simple Body, and Hapke’s Hortum.

The Living Room is a local favorite with a unique selection of plants, serene atmosphere as well as expert advice. The perfect spot for seasoned gardeners and new plant parents!

Urbane Collective is a fantastic spot. They Have the cutest clothes, gifts and home goods. Offering unique products that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s like walking into a world of inspiration!

Then there’s Simple Body, a delightful gem that focuses on self-care and wellness. Their thoughtfully crafted goods remind us to embrace our individuality and take care of ourselves.

And let’s not forget Hapke’s Hortum! This boutique houseplant store has all the essentials to truly brightening up our spaces. They partner with other local makers and vendors to provide truly unique products. Be sure to attend one of their workshops!

As someone who understands the hustle and heart that goes into running a small business, I admire the passion these shops bring to our community. Supporting each other is what it’s all about, and I’m so grateful to have such wonderful places to share with all of you!
