Meet Brittany Ansay | Founder, Developer and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Ansay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business — and going full-time with it — is a bold move for anyone. For me, as a single mom of two young kids, it was even more so. Still, I’ve learned that what looks impossible is made real by first imagining it can happen — and believing it can be beautiful.
The decision to take the leap into self-employment came from a deep recognition: I needed to build a sustainable, scalable life where I could show up at my highest level of excellence, both professionally and personally. I wasn’t willing to burn out before my kids hit their teenage years. I needed a better way to live, lead, and grow.
After Covid, it became even clearer the traditional work model was evolving — the world was moving rapidly toward globalization, fractional leadership, contract-based work, and flexible, asynchronous collaboration. I saw that as an opportunity, not a threat. After a decade in the agency world, witnessing the slow collapse of the churn-and-burn model, I understood that adaptability and innovation had become the real competitive edges. Businesses that couldn’t harness AI, flexible work, and a more human-centered model weren’t going to survive — let alone thrive.
Earlier in my career, the service industry taught me invaluable lessons about empathy, communication, and hospitality — skills that remain at the heart of how I build partnerships today through Via Foci.
Ultimately, the thought process was simple: I wanted to deliver greater value to every project, give my full attention, build tailored teams, and scale with purpose and agility.
I move forward with deep faith in the universe — and in the belief that when we approach our work with heart, excellence, and collaboration, anything is possible.
At Via Foci, I seek partnerships with like-minded creatives and motivated individuals who are committed to evolving, growing, and staying future-focused. Whether a company is rebranding, rebuilding, or launching something entirely new — a web app, a data dashboard, a login portal, a brand — the journey should feel electric. There should be energy, consistency, commitment, and shared excitement at every stage.
Progress isn’t just something you see in a chart. It’s something you feel — in the quality of the work, the dedication of the team, the authenticity of the collaboration. Real benchmarks aren’t vanity metrics; they’re proof points of meaningful growth, tangible wins, and craftsmanship at the highest level.
When I join a project, I treat it with the intensity and ownership as a true stakeholder — fully invested in the outcome, fully committed to excellence, and determined to leave a positive, undeniable dent in the world. Founding Via Foci was built on these principles and they serve as guideposts for all future partnerships.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey with art began as a form of personal therapy. Early on, my work was less concerned with conventional aesthetics and more focused on exploring emotional states and the relationship between internal experiences and the external world. I was drawn to conceptual art, especially work that invites critical thinking and deeper interpretation. Over time, I came to understand that the true power of artistic expression lies in honesty and authenticity. These are the values I strive to uphold in my practice, bringing ideas from imagination into tangible form as reflections of the psyche.
Earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on mixed media and a focus in photography, was instrumental in shaping my confidence and creative direction. It taught me that while circumstances may be beyond our control, our relationship to them defines our story and perspective.
In my professional career, this artistic foundation has greatly influenced my approach to technology and product development. I view projects objectively though holistically, understanding them as narratives that require thoughtful structure and creativity to bring to life with integrity. Through persistence, resilience, and a commitment to authenticity, I have learned that strong relationships and successful outcomes stem from genuine collaboration and communication with others.
Today, my brand, Via Foci, stands out for its combination of technical expertise and creative insight, offering clients not only strong solutions but also a deeply considered, human-centered approach to their vision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fun question! The first place that comes to mind is a getaway to Crested Butte — one of my favorite spots, and a place I lived for a short time as a kid. It’s full of charm, natural beauty, and that small-town magic that’s hard to find. I’d also suggest spending some time wandering around Boulder, stopping at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse for a beautiful meal or grabbing farm-to-table dishes at Black Cat Farmstead.
Loveland would definitely be on the list too — it has this rugged, cowboy-entrepreneur spirit, with incredible hiking and classic Colorado scenery. After a long hike, we’d treat ourselves to some Josh & John’s ice cream. And of course, we’d have to spend a day exploring the Denver Art Museum and perhaps visit Tattered Cover, and maybe dive into the wild, immersive world of Meow Wolf for a totally different kind of experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have gotten to where I am without the love, trust, and encouragement of my loving parents, extended family and close friends. Their belief in me has been an anchor through every high and low.
Professionally, I owe a great deal to the developer mentors and teammates who shaped my early tech career — especially during my time at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Vermilion Design + Digital, SpireMedia, and Blennd. I’m especially grateful to Richard Jones and Matthew Dickey for their guidance. A favorite book that shaped my view of programming as an art form is If Hemingway Wrote JavaScript by Agnes Troll, and I continue to find inspiration following Addy Osmani. For professional growth and personal inspiration, I want to thank some friends who serve as role models: Alala One, Kate Lesta, Rita Jean and Louise Nelson Brown for showing me in various ways how to lead and be authentic.
I’m very deeply grateful to the early clients who trusted me to lead their projects as I transitioned into agency ownership — their belief laid the foundation for what Via Foci has become: a dynamic, flexible team of collaborators. Especially thankful to Amy Hayes with Identity Collective, and Brian Brooks at Fresh Pixel, for being early senior independent agents & creative collaborators that trusted the process and joined my team, serving the first clients at Via Foci.
While part of my mind is wired for leading technology initiatives with strategic precision, the other part is purely artistic — constantly seeking to express and understand the human experience. Artists like Cindy Sherman, Janine Antoni, Sophie Calle, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, and Agnes Lawrence Pelton continue to shape my creative worldview. Their work reminds me daily that creativity is born from boldness, wonder, and relentless pursuit.
Success is never built alone — it’s a symphony of the right people, experiences, and ideas converging at the right time. I’m endlessly grateful to the mentors, colleagues, clients, and creators who have helped me build a life and career rooted in meaning, excellence, and imagination.
And finally, I thank my children, Ada and Marvin, who give me the greatest joy and daily inspiration to follow my dreams and build the life I envision. Their light reminds me that anything is possible with love, courage, and imagination.
