Meet Marina Galarraga | Marketing & Communications Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Galarraga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marina, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I moved to Denver, Colorado three years ago for my husband’s job, and that’s when a new chapter began.
Back home, I was lucky enough to discover early on that I loved communication and creativity. Throughout my career, I explored different roles, and instead of narrowing down, I embraced being a “mix” — of skills, passions, and experiences. Argentina gave me the gift of flexibility: in a country where things shift constantly, doing business means staying creative and adapting fast.
That mindset helped me reinvent myself in the U.S., the land of opportunities. After working in large companies and public organizations, I finally dared to start my own business — The Gurru Agency — a marketing and communication agency where I get to bring all of me to the table: my ideas, my passion, and yes… even my accent!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2023, I launched my boutique agency, The Gurru Agency. “Gurru” has been my nickname for years — very few people actually call me Marina! When I moved to the U.S., I realized that part of my identity had gotten a bit lost in the transition, so I decided to reclaim it and give it a new purpose through my brand.
What sets The Gurru Agency apart is that we bring a Latin American mindset to marketing — one that’s deeply creative, flexible, and resourceful. I come from working in countries where marketing budgets are tight, and you constantly need to adapt. That shaped my belief that great ideas don’t have to be expensive — they just have to be strategic and well-executed.
Over the past two years, we’ve helped entrepreneurs develop their brand and positioning through personalized, hands-on support. I won’t lie — some months have been incredibly busy, and others have been much slower. That uncertainty has been the hardest part to navigate. But I’ve learned so much along the way, and lately we’ve been collaborating with other agencies, combining our strengths — and I’m really enjoying this new phase.
One of the things I love most is building teams and co-creating with others. That’s where the magic happens.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually get visitors quite often, so I’ve become a bit of a Denver tour guide — and I love it!
One of my favorite ways to start is with a quiet walk and coffee at the Denver Botanic Gardens. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and a perfect intro to the city. From there, we’d head to Cherry Creek for lunch and a bit of shopping — a must for anyone who loves a mix of food and fashion.
Another day we’d hop on bikes and explore the city’s amazing trails — it’s such a fun way to see the parks and enjoy Colorado’s natural beauty. Of course, I’d plan a mountain getaway — depending on the season and how much time we have, we’d head to Estes Park, Breckenridge, or Vail for a real Colorado experience.
At night, I love going to The Five for the views and city vibes — it’s magical when Denver lights up. Another favorite spot for dinner is Cholon — amazing food and atmosphere. And one of my most cherished traditions is a long walk through Wash Park, catching up with friends and talking about life — it’s one of the places that feels most like home.
Denver has this incredible balance of city and nature, energy and calm. I feel lucky to live here, and I always love sharing it with the people I care about.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no doubt that a big part of my professional growth is thanks to the teams and people I’ve worked with. My first job was at a multinational company where I stayed for 10 years. I started as an intern and left as a manager — and in between, I learned nearly everything I know. I had great bosses and mentors who helped me find my path and discover what I really enjoy doing. But above all, I developed key soft skills that I think are key. I’ll always be grateful to my team at CORA — they were my first real professional family.
Once I settled in the U.S., my friend Natalia Antezana was instrumental in giving me the courage to start my own business. And my amazing group of fellow women entrepreneurs helped me believe in myself — that my work matters, and it brings value. That might sound simple, but we all face imposter syndrome at some point. My support network has been essential, and I’m endlessly thankful for them.
