Meet Trent McFadden, Paddy Lynch | DJs & Entrepreneurs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trent McFadden, Paddy Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trent McFadden, Paddy Lynch, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Paddy and I have been friends for a long time, and we started our DJ journeys around the same time as well. As we met together to practice, we found that we had an aligned musical taste, as well as chemistry with our views on business and entrepreneurship. One day, we had the thought of wanting to play pool parties in the summer, and it dawned on us that there was an untapped market of luxury apartment complexes across the city needing DJs to play for their community pool parties. We decided to use an old fashioned method of cold calling, usually directly to the front dest of these apartments, and simply shooting our shot. A year later, we have built an entire brand around summertime pool parties, and we’re just getting started!
As far as our name, we both drink smoothies religously, almost daily. Every time we’d get together for a practice session, one, or both of us would have a smoothie. Calling ourselves the Smoothie Boys started out as a joke, but the more we said it, the more it stuck! Plus, there’s not a better name for a “summertime leaning” DJ duo.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are professional selecta’s! What that means: our job is just as much about SELECTING the right song to play, in the right moment, as it is about blending the tracks together. We are different because we prioritzie two things: choosing the right songs, and creating seemless transitions between them, to keep the energy going, take it to the left, the right, up, down, sideways, wherever we want to go, in the moment. This is to create a musical journey for our audience, without a break in music. We always our eyes up, reading the room and making decisions that will best serve the party.
When we think about Smoothie Boys, we are so proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we are most proud of how we do business and the integrity behind it. We always strive to show up and deliver our best, on many fronts. Our professionalism, our artistry, our loving, passionate, social selfs, and our character and values that guides us to do the right thing, even if its hard or unpopular. We’ve grown so much trust and wonderful relationships with our clients, partners, and collaborators in such a short time. We’ll continue to take pride in how we carry ourselves and how we show up as our best, for others.
Thinking through how we’ve arrived to where we are now, it has always been about being consistent. Yes, we work hard, but our ethos is, “keep going.” There are many days where we don’t want to make calls, send emails, problem solve, figure out how contracts work, etc. But we must keep facing the things that we don’t want to do, but need to do. Overall, we have done that well. Our lessons are still being learned, as this is only our second year in business, but we welcome the trials and tribulations. We welcome the mistakes, unknowns, challenges. Bring it on.
Lastly, to know our brand is to know us as people. We take our personal and professional relationships seriously and cherish the communities we are a part of. It is an honor and privledge to help all of our clients foster a sense of connectedness and belonging within their communities. We know how important that is in this day and age, and it feels like we’re really making a difference when we curating the vibe. It really goes hand in hand with how we are as people and our sense of purpose. Both of us have a strong passion to serve others with our unique abilities and we love that this is an enterprise that allows us to share our gifts, while having the time of our lives!
