Meet Kashia Davis | `Outreach Director for Christian Home Educators of Colorado (CHEC)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kashia Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kashia, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Parents are a child’s first and best teacher. Our goal at CHEC is to defend parent’s rights and equip them to homeschool with confidence. We often hear objections based around feeling inadequate or unqualified, but that is simply not true. Parents are qualified, learning is not only possible in the home, we believe it is most often the best environment for it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It is no accident that we are in this culture, time, or economy. We are here “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14.) It is easy to make excuses stemming from all those things, but we are called to be faithful in our part. One day, when standing before the Lord, I want to hear, “well done my good and faithful servant” (Matt. 25:23.) It is the ordinary moments that demonstrate faithfulness. It’s not glamorous nor will I earn notoriety, but serving the Lord and serving others is my goal. Today I am blessed with the chance to encourage families that what the world may call little things are actually the big and important things. At CHEC, we see parents role as significant and I get to encourage parents in their journey to homeschool.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One major perk of homeschooling is understanding the wealth of knowledge gained from real life experiences. Here in Colorado we have fabulous museums, national parks, trails, wildlife, and historic sites. We also have extraordinary people who turned their ordinary life into inspiring tales. I would take you to Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood, CO first. We can enjoy a breakfast pastry, a cup of coffee and hear Jack Phillips share his story of persecution while standing for righteousness. I would then take you to visit Sarah Phippen, an artist who lives in Sedalia, CO. She, a homeschool graduate, has won several awards for her art and has turned the passion into a business. I would ask for a quick art class on oil paintings. Then I would take you the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs where we would have high tea and learn of the history of the building. The “advanced” technology used in the building was a marvel and testament of American ingenuity. I would wrap the day up with a hike through Garden of the Gods. We could discuss weather erosion and the conditions that formed the structures, we could see God’s handiwork on display. Our adventure for the day would be rich with education.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our culture as long been eroding the everyday mom and dad. Authority has been passed off to others, credibility has been undermined, and in some cases the title of Mother or Father has been demeaned. Yet, faithful parents, regular moms and dads, can and should be the hero of the story. The Lord has gifted children to parents with the responsibility of “training them up in the way they should go” Prov. 22:6. We celebrate the millions of parents who chose to “train them up” by homeschooling. Thank you to these heros.
