We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabia Magurn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabia, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I believe the single most important decision I’ve made that has contributed to the success of my business has been the decision to specialize in wedding and event flowers. The way that I chose to specialize has allowed me and my business to become experts in a niche and become well known in the wedding industry. Instead of trying to cater to the wider public by being event floral designers and traditional florists and spreading ourselves too thin, we are able to excel in one area and develop a specific, well-established brand.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Painted Primrose Co. is a floral studio specializing in wedding flowers. Our passion is bringing a couple’s vision to life through complex color palettes, unique flower choices, and stunning designs. Over the years, what I am most proud of is the feedback we get from clients. It gives me serious warm fuzzies to hear how happy clients are with our work or how enjoyable we are to do business with! I’ve learned that as important good design and beautiful flowers are (and they are both super important!), the client experience is even more critical to the success of a business. Every time a client interacts with your brand, they need to walk away feeling confident that you are working hard for them and happy because you or your staff connected with them in a genuine and authentic way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was to plan the most amazing Colorado week ever, I would definitely feature a fun combo of nature + outdoorsy based activities and local gems like the The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse! Some of my favorite places to get lost in nature are the Twin Owls in Estes Park, Piney Lake in Vail, and the Paint Mines near Calhan! As far as food and entertainment goes, I love a night out at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox or The Clocktower Cabaret in downtown Denver. And of course we’d have to hit up some of my favorite local restaurants! Some of my top ones are right here in Longmont; the Roost and Jefe’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be who I am now nor would my business would be where it is today without the incredible, overwhelming support of the Boulder Leading Ladies, a Boulder based women’s business group; Sarah Cioni, the founder of the Painted Primrose; Wedgewood Weddings, a large wedding venue chain and a massively important business relationship, and, of course, my amazing mom.
